Ted Cruz Warns That Shutdown Could Lead To A Terrorist Attack Against U.S.
Source: Think Progress
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Wednesday raised fears that the shutdown of the federal government that he helped launch could potentially lead to an attack on the United States of America, calling on his fellow senators to to pass a separate resolution funding the Defense Department.
Cruz was speaking at a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee related to reforms of the Foreign Surveillance Intelligence Act. Earlier in the hearing, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper informed members of the committee that the federal shutdown had caused the suspension of the 70 percent of the intelligence communitys civilian work force. In response, Cruz suggested that a miniature continuing resolution funding only the Department of Defense and the intelligence community could be passed through the Senate today. I dont believe President Obama should be playing politics with this, he said. He shouldnt be refusing to negotiate or compromise.
What Cruz did not mention during his speech was that the he is the reason a separate bill would be needed at all. For weeks, he and his allies in the House and Senate have insisted that any continuing resolution that fund the government past Sept. 30 would have to remove funding for the Affordable Care Act. Just last week, he launched a 21 hour speech, dubbed a faux-libuster to convince his Republican colleagues to hold the line on stripping Obamacare from the continuing resolution. Hes also paid for numerous ads on cable television denouncing Obamacare and imploring that watchers call their senators to oppose funding it.
A clean continuing resolution including funding for not only Obamacare but also the Departments of Defense, State, Veterans Affairs, and the entirety of federal operations has always been the goal of the White House and Senate Democrats. When their demands were not met, the government shut down on Tuesday, leading to the furloughs that Cruz denounced as threatening Americas safety.

Sadly, many corporate media outlets are pushing the meme that Democrats must show "leadership," which is code for Democrats must compromise while Republicans are given a free pass because they are "crazy."

(14,400 posts)the fact that a major political party is now lifting him up as a standard bearer is pathetic beyond belief.
I'd be disgusted to even be in the same room as him, it would be hard not to vomit the second that nasally voice piped up.

(3,596 posts)the term "terrorist" is not defined. It appears to be left to the CiC to decide.
I suggest Obama declare the Teabaggers "terrorists" and "eliminate" or remove them. The whole shutdown could be over in 4 hours with some well coordinated action.
Seriously, I don't advocate violence against anyone but these political terrorists need to be called out for what they are. They are, in my mind, engaging in treason when they attempt to prevent the implementation of a duly-elected, constitutional law and inhibit the functioning of government.
Why are their actions any less treasonous than someone who hacks and sabotages the healtchare.gov site or holds Congress hostage in an attempt to prevent the proper functioning of government?

This guy will stop at nothing in his thirst for power. I have no doubt he welcomes such an attack, and would then use it to call for impeachment. Rough times are here, rougher times ahead.

(86,646 posts)It might have come from the same place this quote did, "I said, you know, like 9/11:Let's Roll!" (Rep. John Culbertson, -R- TX)
I suspect that just as these cads were planning the shutdown since three years ago, they are likely preparing a false flag event as well... which kind of sheds some more light on the origins of the 9/11 events perhaps? Just sayin'... could time for another look at that too.
The truth always oozes out eventually.

As to the "Dems should show some leadership" crowd... PBO should anounce that he has instructed the DOJ and the SEC to investigate congress members and their staff for placing "Put Options" against anything that would be adversely affected by the shutdown that they voted and/or lobbied for under the USA Patriot Act.

(3,539 posts)They may have done some long term 'planning' this time. At least with respect to their PR.
This "separate bill" after "separate bill" after "separate bill" is just a ploy to try to shift blame.
Their owners want what they want and that is all their is to it.
Keep in mind that corporate media has some of the same owners.
Rest assured, the republicans have no good intentions and any republican offered olive branch bears only poison fruit.

If it happens (I hope not) then the bloods for it - will be on the GOP party - not at the Democratic Party - it will not be on the hands of your current US president - it will be on the hands om the 80 republican member of Congress - who wanted to shut down the Government - and to give in to terrorism. Not that they have had any qualm about acting as terrorists them self lately, by not working for the better good...
And I guess Ted Cruz is one of the danger - to the US as he have acted in a way, who in better times would be recognized as terrorism....
