CEOs at White House Warn of Adverse Effects of Shutdown, Debt Ceiling.
Source: nyt/reuters
Major business leaders including Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein who met with President Barack Obama on Wednesday warned of dire consequences if lawmakers fail to raise the U.S. debt ceiling and prevent a government shutdown from lasting a long time.
Blankfein, speaking to reporters after the meeting, said the chief executives represented different political views but all agreed the consequences of decisions made about the shutdown and the debt ceiling were serious for the financial world.
Business leaders wanted Washington to understand "the long-term consequences of a shutdown - we're already in the short-term consequences of a shutdown - but certainly the consequences of a debt ceiling (not being raised), and we all agree that those are extremely adverse," he said.

(18,402 posts)I'm being sarcastic, of course. I think we should ban the use of the word "cave" here. It's a Tea Party type of concept--that anything that cedes even the slightest nod or gives up an ounce of purity is a "cave."
If we know, personally, that life is complicated, we can be sure that running a government (or a party, or a mega-business) is really really complicated, and that ideological purity is the enemy of progress.

and, if they do, may I suggest a less subtle approach? Instead of wasting time trying to convince the GOP that their antics might be bad for business and America, just bluntly state that you will fund their political opponents if they continue on this path.
Cut to the chase.

(11,495 posts)They need to go to the House, talk with Boehner and the tea party clowns, maybe make Cruz show up also, and simply lay down the law to the. If the "big money" boys tell them "NO MORE MONEY" if you don't stop this insanity, then maybe they will listen. Granted the tea party clowns are pretty much insane, but Boehner, Mitch, and Cruz like all that money, so if they think that money is going away, then they might get something done.
