Shots fired, suspect arrested at Children's Hospital

Source: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

A suspect is in custody after shots were fired at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin shortly after noon Thursday, according to an email and text alert sent to employees.

...snip...

In a statement, Children's confirmed an active shooter at the hospital at approximately 12:15 p.m.. The entire hospital was on lockdown while law enforcement responded, according to the statement. Officers from both the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department and Wauwatosa Police Department responded.

...snip...

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke said they got the call of an active shooter at 11:59 a.m. When they responded, they found that Milwaukee police already were there seeking a wanted felon. They found him in the neonatal unit on the seventh floor. He was holding a baby. When police told the man he was under arrest, he apparently put down the baby and fled.

I was looking at the number of guns in the USA and I ran across this little news artivle.

Three centuries of Spanish rule and machismo were followed by 50 years of American encouragement of the right to bear arms, making for a volatile mixture, it is said. Whatever the causes, the difficulties in distributing aid showed how, nearly 70 years after independence, central government has yet to impose itself fully throughout the archipelago of 80 provinces, dozens of languages and 7,000 islands.

Out gun nuttery is contagious. And ain't it funny, everywhere there are a lot of guns, there are a lot of gun nuttery happpening.

It seems that this incident is an entirely police-created incident.

May be erroneous early, or follow-up reporting.

Shit like this usually takes a day or two to shake out.

The deputies went to the hospital to arrest him on a warrant when he resisted and the Deputies used their guns to subdue him.

The man was taken into custody, Clarke said. He did not identify the man and said no other injuries were reported.

The man had been holding a baby when police approached him and attempted to arrest him, Clarke said. He fled after putting the baby down. Neither the baby nor the baby's mother was hurt.

The article says they got a tip he was in the hospital, so perhaps they they thought he was there for nefarious purposes and thought it best to move quickly.

But if they knew he was just there to visit, it really seems like waiting for him to come out, and following him somewhere safer, would have made more sense...
