Texas GOP Lawmaker Charged With Felony In Airport Gun Incident

Source: Talking Points Memo

A Texas Republican lawmaker was charged with a felony after he allegedly tried to take a gun through security earlier this month at an airport in Austin, according to multiple reports.

Authorities said Texas state Rep. Drew Darby (R) tried to take a .38 caliber Ruger pistol with six rounds of ammunition through security at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to the Austin American-Statesman newspaper.

has done as governor? His only power is to veto the Legislature which meets every other year and call the Legislature to Austin for special sessions. The reason nitwits are elected governor here is that no-one wants that job. Name another Texas Governor besides W and John Connolly. There's been no serious Democrat to run since I moved here until the last election when former Houston Mayor White ran and though I voted for him he really didn't seem like he was seriously running. I think he could have won.

So what state are you from?

The biggest boost from being governor is because of the population of Texas, if the governor wants to be a Senator or President where there's real power. That's why Rick folded like a cheap suit once he got a national stage. Frankly Cruz and Cornyn have more power and I bet Ted ends up a talking head on Fox before he gets ever gets re-elected. Its the stupid congressman that get elected here that scare me.

The votes for Democratic Presidential candidates have increased each election since the other moron, W got elected. Frankly the nation and not just Texas has given the Teapublicans majority in the House.

And I'll bet dollars to donuts the President will have a majority House after the 2014 election. We owe it to him. As a Republican I will be voting a fairly straight Democratic ticket again, like I have since HW.

Republicans are not all any one thing. I think it is dangerous to "all" any class of human beyond we're all humans and deserve to treated as that. We have better hang together in these days of loss of privacy, the class wars we may be facing, the deterioration of freedoms and democracy here in the US. All progressives (an exception of the "all&quot need to be joining in common issues instead of excluding others out.

Not looking for a fight, we are in dangerous times and I know we have a lot more concerns in common than not.

... for explaining. I'm probably allot older than you. Having been around a while and seen what I've seen in this country & world, that really is the way I feel. I hope that in the future, things will become more civil among all human beings. That no one will think they are better than others, that all will realize that we ARE in the same boat. That there will be a real turning toward peace and justice.

In Texas, for example, barring a pardon or other, formal "judicial release" from felon status, an individual convicted of a felony cannot run for public office, even though he or she may be able to vote.

He will retain the right to vote until there is a final felony conviction on his record. Once a felon has successfully completed his or her punishment, including any term of incarceration, parole, supervision, period of probation, or has been pardoned, then that person is immediately eligible to register to vote.

IMHO, if there is a way to charge the senator with a misdemeanor, then he will see the charges reduced because IOKIYAR. It will be interesting to see if he retains his CHL though.

The final two contestants were Taylor and Del Valle. The people in Taylor bribed the judges with donuts and barbecue, so Del Valle took the crown.

..........According to the arrest affidavit, the Republican was arrested on Nov. 14 after the loaded .380 caliber Ruger showed up in the x-ray screening. Darby told the arresting officer he holds a concealed handgun license and had forgotten the pistol was in his bag.

In a statement, Darby said he regretted his mistake.

The Transportation Safety Administration has set a record for gun seizures at airports this year, more than 1,500 nationwide by October, more than in all of 2012.
