RVINGTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Police and federal authorities captured four suspects overnight in the shooting that killed a Hoboken attorney at the Short Hills Mall last weekend.

At a news conference Saturday morning, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said Hanif Thompson, 29, of Irvington; Karif Ford, 31, of Newark; Basim Henry, 32, of Newark; and Kevin Roberts, 33, of Newark, had all been charged in the Sunday attack.

Who was carjacked on the third floor of a parking garage of a shopping mall during the holiday shopping season by FOUR people? Was it actually a "hit?"

In the comments section at the link provided. The amount of hatred and racist language that is allowed by the "Disqus" software indicates that there is no moderating at all. My local paper also uses "Disqus" on their website but it is closely monitored and censored, almost to the point of being ridiculous.

I am glad they caught those responsible for the senseless killing at the New Jersey Mall, but the racism, bigotry and hatred that is expressed is very unnerving.

which suggests that the comments are moderated. But then some of the other comments are horribly racist epithets, and these presumably met with the moderators' approval. I don't get it.

"awaiting" are those that were picked up by an automatic filter, the nasty ones there are those that got past the filter (because they didn't use words that triggered the moderation). I imagine there's still a way to send those posts to moderation - an alert button, or a high ratio of down-votes, perhaps.

Bunch of nasty racists there, though...

Friedland and his wife were leaving The Mall at Short Hills Sunday night when they were confronted by two armed men as they were getting into their Range Rover on the third-floor parking deck, prosecutors said...

It appeared he was protecting his wife because she was already in their luxury Range Rover SUV when the gun was put to his head. Friedland’s Range Rover was seen speeding away on surveillance cameras, along with the Chevrolet Suburban the suspects drove to the mall...

This is a primer on how NOT to carjack: too many accomplices, too many getaway cars, too many victims (one female is considered ideal precisely because she's less likely to fight back); a too-convoluted getaway route. And given that the mall was probably more populated than usual last Sunday night due to the start of Christmas shopping season, it adds up to too many opportunities to be witnessed. Which is why it doesn't add up.

But they were SO stupid about it that I have to wonder if it was really meant to be a carjacking. And I certainly hope that it had nothing to do with victim being an attorney.

Dustin Friedland and his wife lived in my town, although I didn't know them personally. By all accounts, he was a nice guy. It's a very sad time for his wife and family. At least they'll have some closure and peace of mind knowing that his killers won't be able to hurt anyone again.
