PASCO, Wash. U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, a Republican from Pasco who has represented the states 4th Congressional District for 20 years, announced today he will retire and will not seek re-election at the end of this year.
Two decades ago, the people of Central Washington first voted to place their trust in me to represent them in Congress, Hastings said in a news release. In the nine subsequent elections, Ive been humbled to have been given the privilege to serve as their common-sense voice and to work for solutions to improve our local communities and pursue a better, brighter future for our Nation.
It is with deep appreciation for that privilege that I announce that this will be my final term in office and that I will not run for reelection in November.
Hastings, 73, is currently the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee. He was first elected in 1994 by defeating then-Rep. Jay Inslee, of Selah, now Washingtons governor.

(11,495 posts)The east side of the mountains is red. Doc is my rep since the new lines were redrawn, it used to be McMorris Rogers. Many years back it was also Doc before they redrew the districts.
It is probably a pretty got bet that the R's will keep it, but until we find out who is running it's hard to say.

This district is so red you could run Bill Clinton and he would lose by thirty points. Eastern Washington is now and forever will be a Republican seat. Hasting did bring home the bacon for Hanford and that was good, he also looked the other way on farm workers as most are not entitled to work here but is good for his district.
