Gov. Ghris Christie Named 'Father of the Year'
Source: The Washington Post
Meet Chris Christie, father of the year. For real. The Father's Day/Mothers Day Council has selected the New Jersey governor as a national father of the year. He'll be honored with an award in June, along with shoe designer Vince Camuto.
It's a welcome bit of good news for Christie, who has had very little of it since a scandal broke earlier this year surrounding a politically motivated traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge. E-mails released as a probe into the September tie-up appear to show that it was orchestrated by Christie loyalists.
Christie has mostly kept a low public profile since then, but he has reemerged in the past few weeks, taking questions at town hall meetings and during his monthly radio show on New Jersey 101.5, "Ask the Governor." Christie said on the show that he thought the fatherhood honor was a joke at first and that his kids "got a good laugh" out of it. "Its particularly nice because its the thing I care about most in my life," he said.
Christie and his wife, Mary Pat Christie, have four children: Andrew, Sarah, Patrick and Bridget. All four spoke at Christie's inauguration in January. Christie often peppers his speeches and comments at public appearances with stories about the kids, and the brash governor lights up.

And then when called on it by the press, paying back the taxpayers for the trip.
What a commendable lesson that is: see if you can get away with it, and if you can't, then pony up. Don't do the right thing the first time!

Father of the Year? They couldn't find anyone else? They couldn't find a single father who's not facing ethics charges?
Not only is this just ridiculous on the face of it, but imagine all the future "honorees." I don't know how much prestige this award had before, but it's pretty much shot its credibility down the toilet.

(53,661 posts)Oh, wait, his wife was right there enjoying him abusing a school teacher. Just doing his job for the Koches, she feels very proud. Christie is raking in the money for his Cow of Bashan wife there. There's a meme to go with that picture:

(1,307 posts)from either that photo or a different teacher argument - his wife was at his side, BIG SMILE on her face as she looks at the teacher. I think she had her hands politely folded in front of her. If he still had a chance of running for President, it would come up.

(18,581 posts)...in that it really doesn't change his overall service record, and in the end it's worth the total of it's melt down value. I have a T-shirt that says "#1 Grandpa".
I can separate politics and family, and just because he's an asshole in public life doesn't mean he's a bad father. Having said that, it could have been awarded literally as a consolation prize by sympathizers, as in he's being deeply consoled for his political loss.
BTW... I really don't have that T-shirt, but unlike Christie, I don't have to prove anything to the public.

(5,299 posts)...but he'd be in the running for "Asshole of the Year."
The competition is stiff, though -- he's up against the likes of Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Rush Limbo, Glenn Beck, Rand Paul, The RobertsAlitoThomasScalia, and the up-and-coming-teabagger-secessionist-neo-nazi militia-hero, Cliven Bundy, etc, etc, etc.
