Nevada congressman seeks removal of Bundy backers

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada congressman is calling on elected officials in the state to rid a town in his district of militia members who have rallied around rancher Cliven Bundy in his battle with federal land managers.

Rep. Steven Horsford, in an address to the Clark County Democratic Convention in Las Vegas on Saturday, said he’s making the request after hearing more complaints from constituents about the presence of Bundy supporters near Bunkerville, 75 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

In encampments around the Bundy ranch, self-described militia members from around the country continue to camp with handguns on their hips and heavier weaponry within reach in a show of support for Bundy.

Bundy, a states’ rights advocate who refuses to acknowledge the authority of the federal government, owes more than $1 million in fees and penalties for letting his cattle use government land over the past 20 years. Last month, the Bureau of Land Management stopped trying to round up his cattle after a showdown with hundreds of Bundy supporters, some of them armed.

Know what, I pay a shitload of federal and state taxes. I've never resented doing that but it is fundamentally wrong for people like Bundy to get a pass while I help pay for his Social Security disability checks. Maybe I should load up and set up a checkpoint on the road that goes by my house so that I don't have to pay property taxes this year. BLM heads should roll for having fucked this up so badly.

They shouldn't have started the roundup in the first place if they weren't going to finish it. They even gave back 400 cattle they'd already collected. Yet not a single one of those knuckleheads has been arrested to this day, and now they have set up armed checkpoints on public highways.

Things are much worse than before. The so-called militia types are now emboldened and this is setting an example for all of us - a very bad example. Why should anybody pay grazing fees now? Why should anybody pay taxes? If it's optional for Bundy then why not for the rest of us?

Think about it. For awhile there Cliven Bundy looked like this redneck folk hero forcing the government to back down while across the country the Tea Party, the GOP and Faux News rallied around him like he was a legend. The GOP Party wanted to make him a poster boy for their party. I swore Sean Hannity was giggling like a girl with glee everytime he mentioned the joys that was Cliven Bundy.

My guess is that the BLM had decades of experience dealing with Bundy and knew he was a racist asshole. They 'backdowned' because they knew it was a matter of time before Bundy showed the rest of the world what an ignorant racist he is. All that hero praise from Faux News, the GOP and Tea Party would quickly sour when he started making his racist rants to the media. Because of that maneuver, large flocks of people started abandoning him including Faux news and the GOP.

Sure there are still Bundy supporters out there because let's face it - the Tea Party is filled with racists. But having cleared away the cheerleaders from the GOP and Faux news will make it much easier for the Government to deal with Cliven Bundy. There is no way the government could have done anything with the media circus pumping up Bundy - now that mess has gone away except the diehard tea party racists.

Bundy has burned almost all his bridges now. They are laying in wait til a 3 AM raid, when there is no media and minimal RW assholes (or none) to cope with.

If they had charged in there guns blazing, we'd have another Ruby Ridge to counter for decades.

it makes the situation dangerous. I'm sure the administration is thinking back to what a mess it was when the decision was made to raid the ranch in Waco. The last thing they want is a shoot out with fundies which will not only result in the loss of life, but also more CTs about the Obama Administration.

I agree Bundy needs to be held accountable for not paying the grazing fees, the question is how. I doubt the local officials are going to get anywhere by asking the thugs to just go home.

some one beats up on the guys and gals at the BLM. Wake the f**kup people. You favorite Rethug has probably had a hand in the defunding of the Forest Service(BLM) which in turn caused the lay off of thousands of BLM personnel. I Know one office that has jurisdiction on the Arizona Strip, which includes the Bundy Dick wads,a few years ago they had 33 Rangers. A certain Congress person was pissed at the local BLM office so he single handed wiped out 32 Rangers and they are replaced by local volunteers. If you think these folks are out of line,in beg you different. When you have 1 68 year old Ranger covering roughly 5 counties, give me a break. Folks this whole staged fake bunch of stupids is all about the State of Utah and Idaho along with Wyoming, taking our Federal Land for their private sale to the Mineral Extraction Companies at the lowest bidder.

Rest assured Bundy and his Ilk will charge and have their day in court. And it ain't going to be pretty when these want to be TeaBaggers have their weapons permits canceled or face Federal Prison.for being a felon restricted to no Firearms. Now that will leave a mark.

They probably have warrants out for their arrests but I am sure they want to take them one by one or in small groups. Avoiding a shootout is a much smarter way to go.

Snip> Lombardo confirms that Metro developed a lot of intelligence about militia members who were present. Those who aimed their guns at officers will be dealt with.

"Yes, there will be consequences, definitely. That is unacceptable behavior. If we let it go, it will continue into the future," Lombardo said.

Law enforcement sources told us that federal officials are preparing to move against Cliven Bundy, but they might wait months until things die down before making their move.

Like they did with the Occupy protesters. Yep.

I got it - let's just rename these yahoos as armed Occupy protesters and see how fast the cops move in on them.

This is BS- handling these terrorists with kid gloves, after the way the Occupy protesters were beaten, jailed, maced.

The April action against Bundy was a criminal action taken only because he'd burned through all of his civil appeals.
