Suspected shooter arrested at Dayton VA medical complex
Source: RT
A suspected gunman is reportedly in custody on Monday after allegedly opening fire at a Department of Veterans Affairs medical complex in Dayton, Ohio.
Local media reported that police were notified of a gunman close to 12:15 p.m. local time Monday afternoon.
Details are still emerging, but WDTN reported soon after that multiple crews were en route to Daytons VA Medical Center were several buildings were being evacuated upon news of an active shooter situation, while others were being put in lock down as police searched door-to-door, according to WHIO.
Nicole Grigg, a reporter for ABC 22/Fox 45 in Dayton, tweeted from the scene that police believe the suspect may be carrying a revolver. Another witness told WDTN moments later that no fewer than 30-40 police officers had swarmed one of the VA buildings, and that law enforcement personnel from several other agencies, including the Federal bureau of Investigation and a SWAT team, were on site.

(63,912 posts)I hope Bloomberg's campaign does some good, but I suspect he'll be hit with every slam the NRA and its minions can muster, if they haven't started already. The fact that he's short, Jewish and a New Yorker will, unfortunately, be in that mix...

But I guess when you are anti-gun you can't be choosy about your friends. So tell me, do you support Bloomberg's stated intent to actively oppose the reelection of incumbent Democrats who do not agree with him on guns? Will you donate money knowing it will be used against Dems?

(63,912 posts)We don't always agree on everything. But I can see why you would want to do everything you could to keep Mike Bloomberg from making any headway for gun safety....yes, that is very clear.

(39,171 posts)I don't need to do anything to stop Bloomberg - his movement will succeed or fail on its own merits. History says it will fail - if support for gun control is as strong as you believe it is, there would be no need for a billionaire funded "movement" - it would have spontaneously risen decades ago when gun violence was much worse. You will discover that support for gun control is wide but very shallow - it is not a high priority for voters. Which is why it will not be a major issue in the 2014 and 2016 campaigns.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)if you think it's gonna fail so much, then why do you even CARE what Mike B. does? If I felt as you say you do, I'd just step aside, step back and watch it fail...

Oh, and here's an interesting piece on how Mr. B's campaign might actually benefit Senate Dems in 2014

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) A Veterans Affairs hospital employee and a retired worker were struggling over a gun in a break room Monday when the firearm went off, leading to the employee's shooting and the retiree's arrest, police said.
The victim, a 61-year-old man, was shot once in the ankle, said Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl. The suspect, Neil Moore, 59, was taken into custody after seeking psychiatric treatment at a different hospital a few miles away, Biehl said.

Moore worked in housekeeping before retiring, said Glenn Costie, chief executive of the hospital. He did not have any other details about Moore's employment history.
The FBI said a revolver was found inside the suspect's vehicle. A woman who answered the phone at Moore's house in suburban Dayton said the family had no comment and wouldn't give her name.
