WATERGATE CONSPIRATOR JEB STUART MAGRUDER HAS DIED
May. 16, 2014 1:49 PM EDT

DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — Jeb Stuart Magruder, the man who claimed to have heard President Richard Nixon order the Watergate break-in, has died. He was 79.

Jeff Hull, owner of Hull Funeral Service in Danbury, Connecticut, says Magruder died May 11 of complications from a stroke.

Magruder was a businessman who became Nixon's deputy campaign director and then served in the Republican president's administration.

He spent seven months in prison for lying about the involvement of Nixon's re-election committee in the 1972 break-in at Washington's Watergate complex. The burglary eventually led to the president's resignation.

Magruder - sadly, looks like a moderate compared to the current Republican Party.

How the GOP party could ever claim with a straight face that wasn't all setup beforehand, I will never know.
A blind man could see what was happening!

When that all came down in 1974, 40 years ago, I was just graduating from high school.
I have never voted for a Republican running for office, not even for the lowest office in the state or county.
And most of the reason for that is because the people who claimed to be Republicans that I knew at that time never gave up defending Tricky Dick or any of the other men involved with the Watergate break-in.

Nixon tried to undermine the entire system of the federal government while sitting in the White House, claiming that the president had "king-like" powers while he was in office.
What a crock of crap that stupid line of defense was!

Nixon was a frickin' crook.
And every single one of the Republican Presidents elected to office since Nixon have all been crooks -- Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and his son, George W. Bush.
