AP source: Walker in talks to end campaign probe

MADISON, Wis. (AP) A person close to an investigation of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walkers campaign says Walkers attorney is discussing a possible settlement with the lead investigator that would end the probe.
The person who spoke Wednesday to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity said he could not do so publicly because of a secrecy order covering the investigation.
The person said he had spoken with several people with direct knowledge of the discussions between prosecutors and Walkers attorney. The secret investigation, known as a John Doe, focuses on alleged illegal coordination between conservative groups, Walkers campaign and others during recall elections in 2011 and 2012.
The Wall Street Journal in an editorial on Wednesday first reported on the possible settlement.

(65 posts)...and then they resign and slink away into the shadows, denying any wrongdoing. Here's hoping Wisconsin's press stands up and does its job. Subverting democracy (if found guilty) demands jail time. Resignations and probations won't cut it.

(14,449 posts)They voted for him Twice and that was during a recall. I doubt he is going anywhere and that folks won't demand it. I was SHOCKED that they did not vote him out when given on a silver tray.

PLEA DEALS are what criminals negotiate....
Sounds like Frank Luntz has been "massaging" the newspaper copy with his "Words That Work," the bloated shithead.

(60,536 posts)Investigators assigned to the Michelle Bachmann case probably, I suspect, negotiated a settlement with her; "don't run for re-election and we won't file charges in court."

(60,536 posts)and an investigating agency or, perhaps the continuation of the sentence pledging not to seek reelection, would read, "I will never again run for any public office."
Hell, if I were investigating Walker or Bachmann, I'd flush them down one of those new American Standard "it will flush anything" type toilets being advertised on TV.

(65 posts)You don't get to say, "Ooops, I'm sorry. I promise never to shop here again. Can I go away now? Can we settle?" NO - you are jailed, bond must be posted and you then wait for the wheels of justice to decide what to do with you. God help you if you have priors. It's WAY PAST TIME that we as citizens of this country allow this wrist slapping bullshit to continue. A settlement? No admission of guilt? Just quit and we'll all be happy? I realize that the people of Wisconsin have been making themselves be heard. They must keep up the pressure. For the good of their state and their well being.

(32,036 posts)The club and its treasurer, Eric O'Keefe, filed a federal lawsuit in February against special prosecutor Francis Schmitz and others contending the secret investigation into the 2012 recall campaigns violated their rights to free speech. This month, U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa in Milwaukee halted the probe as he considers the group's claims.
Wow...both left AND right upset with this decision!
