EU sends advisers to help Ukraine bring law and order to rebel areas
Source: Guardian (UK)
The EU has parachuted a team of security advisers into Kiev to assist the Ukrainian government in imposing the rule of law in rebel districts, in a provocative move likely to further inflame relations with Moscow.
Catherine Ashton, the EU's foreign policy chief, agreed last week to requests from the Ukrainian authorities for urgent help in bolstering the country's security services.
An initial £2m is being provided by the EU to fund the unarmed advisers, but further money is expected to be committed as the conflict between the government and pro-Russian dissidents continues after the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.

The EU is also readying serious sanctions against Russia's financial sector. Bad nerd for Putin and London's amoral financiers.

(2,060 posts)System and concurrently announces it will take ANY currency for payment of its gas. This below is so scary makes one start breathing fast. This is what is going to happen. And the West thinks it can stop it by declaring war as the president talks about reducing corporate taxes. Only dunces don't know what is happening. The US is about to be targeted.

(42,239 posts)Yes that remains ongoing despite the fact the $400 billion contract was sorted late May. Last mention had been that the price
would likely match which Germany pays. NB priced in US$s solely for comparison : payable in local currencies.
The lower the floor price the better as that seriously affects the economics of shipping by other countries.

(18,998 posts)China could destroy us financially and Russia could bled us dry fighting and supporting proxy wars.
Then China could make it's move in the east, and we could say or do nothing...
And of course the obvious thing is that all sides have nukes and any one that started it could destroy the world.
But I guess it will be like a spectators sport where there is a cheering squad that is there to make you think we cannot lose...and they will cheer till the end...which will probably come as a flash of light, a mighty roar and a mushroom cloud.
