Federal Judge Catches Indiana Governor Mike Pence In A Lie
Source: The New Civil Rights Movement
District Court Judge Richard Young, who struck down Indiana's same-sex marriage ban in June, ruled yesterday in the case of Bowling V Pence, the state's last unresolved marriage equality lawsuit. Judge Young found in favor of the defendants, who had sued to require Indiana to recognize their out-of-state marriages. Think Progress reports that the court ordered Indiana officials to end enforcement of all laws that allow the state to treat the marriages of same-sex couples differently than the marriages of heterosexual couples. He also ordered the state to allow married same-sex couples to file joint tax returns, and to provide benefits to married same-sex couples.
While those rulings were not particularly unexpected, Judge Young's fit of anger was. Calling the governor's statements to the court "bold misrepresentations" he reinstated Governor Pence (above left) as a defendant in the case as it goes forward on appeal.
