Washington Post Editorial Section To Ban 'Redskins'

Source: TPM

The Washington Post's editorial section on Friday joined the ongoing media protest of the Washington Redskins' incendiary name.

The Post's editorial writers made it clear that the policy is "only for editorials" and the change won't apply to reporters who cover sports and news. That isn't quite as far-reaching as the policy instituted earlier this summer by the Seattle Times, which barred the team's name from appearing in its print and online editions.

Well, it's a start, though it would really send a message to Dim Snyder if the entire paper stopped using the name of its home team.

The team should drop "Washington". They play in Maryland and live in Virginia. 24601 Aug 2014 #5

would be to simply stop reporting on them entirely, as long as the team's name remains the same.

But if they were referred to solely as the Washington team on the sports pages, that would send a message.

You're still reporting the scores as news, but you're leaving out the offensive word. It might inspire TV and radio people to follow suit. When this little prick Snyder finally realizes he's all alone, then he might change his mind, and pull his head out of his ass. Maybe.

Not exactly a bastion of the lib'rul media.

I imagine it has a large Native American readership, though.

... Mocked Dan Synder's defense of the name by saying it was the best defense Washington has had in a decade.

some publicly funded stadium tell its NFL team that teams with names like that won't be allowed to play there.
