Ireland is prepared to broker Gaza deal
Source: Irish Examiner
Foreign Affairs Minister Charlie Flanagan has called on Israel to accept "tough compromises" in a peace deal with the Palestinians and for Ireland to play a role in the talks between both sides.
The war-torn enclave of Gaza must be allowed reopen its own port and the blockade should be lifted on its 1.7m inhabitants, the newly appointed minister declared.
However, the Fine Gael minister said this could only happen if Hamas, the Palestinian ruling party in Gaza, desisted from acts of violence including firing rockets into Israel.
Nearly 2,100 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 66 Israelis, mostly troops, have been killed in more than six weeks of fighting.

(26,060 posts)continue to blame Israel for the violence, it seems Ireland knows better. From the OP:

That people here are believing every world that comes out of hamas, the rest of the country knows better.

To ensure Hamas can't rearm.

(39,171 posts)Time for some pragmatism here- I understand your desire to punish Israel. How much more suffering in Gaza is it worth to you? Because, like it or not, Israel will not let Hamas rearm and you know it.

(13,184 posts)Kill hundreds of civilians.
Destroy vital infrastructure.
Arrest hundreds or thousands of Palestinians.
Steal more Palestinian land.
Demolish family homes without anything approaching a legal process.
And maintain the Gaza ghetto in lockdown.

(3,829 posts)It is Israel's natural right to do as it pleases against the Palestinians. It is the Palestinians' duty to accept their subservient status. It is the Palestinians' fault for not accepting Zionism, which makes them anti-Semitic and worthy of destruction.
The last seventy years of history is not relevant. History only starts at the last rocket launch, or whatever is the latest excuse.

(7,321 posts)hasn't exactly worked. The Irish know a thing or two of the brutal inhumane tactics of their centuries long struggle with their oppressors. If they can't manage to pull it off.. well.. we certainly aren't the appropriate "Peace-Brokers" that's clear.

(57,936 posts)societies tend to prevail over and dominate less well educated, technologically advanced and socially organized societies. Palestinians would do well to stop fighting and start working with the Israelis. Israel has a lot to offer Palestinians. Remember, Palestinians live in peace with civil rights in Israel. The reverse is not true.
Achieving peace will be a slow, step-by-step process. And a great part of it will be lifting Palestinians up. The worst enemies of Palestinians are not Israelis but the Palestinian leaders.

(7,321 posts)From what I gather, that is no longer the reality for Palestinians in Israel, civil rights for Palestinian citizens of Israel are diminishing rapidly on the ground, subjected to hostile discrimination .
60 years - 60 Centuries. I guess "slow" is relative.
