Britain Raises Terror Threat To Severe, Attack ‘Highly Likely’

Source: Associated Press

LONDON (WNEW/AP) — Britain raised the terror threat level from substantial to severe Friday, meaning that a terrorist attack is considered highly likely.

Home Secretary Theresa Mays said the decision to raise the threat level was related to developments in Iraq and Syria, but that there was no information to suggest an attack was imminent. Some of the plots are likely to involve fighters who have traveled from Britain and Europe to take part in fighting in the Middle East.

“We face a real and serious threat in the UK from international terrorism,” she said. “I would urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police.”

May says the decision by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Center is made on the basis of intelligence and is independent of government. “Severe” is the second-highest of five levels.

... over here, over there... "No evidence of any attack," but "the threat is high."

I dunno, something here doesn't seem to add up.

This quote is totally out of context from another post, but it seems to me to be a clue:

“David Cameron has made up his mind. He wants to stay in,” Mr. Carswell told a news conference. “It’s all about positioning for the election." (http://www.democraticunderground.com/1014882780)

I'm pretty sure we've seen this before, somewhere.....

If it does, can it be used to stop those people from passing out leaflets? Maybe deporting new immigrants that are disruptive?

They're not in the business of sovling problems.

If they clamped down on the hate preachers then more people might turn their attention to the banks and corporations that are robbing them blind.

10. Here are the UK Threat Levels

From a UK government website, here are the threat levels, lowest to highest:

low - an attack is unlikely
moderate - an attack is possible but not likely
substantial - an attack is a strong possibility
severe - an attack is highly likely
critical - an attack is expected imminently

I don't know, I kinda miss Tom Ridge's color-coded threat circle. Almost made threat levels entertaining, though I think he could have used more creative colors, maybe like sunburst yellow or seafoam green to enhance its appeal.
