Police departments admit losing military weapons

Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Pentagon has banned 145 law enforcement agencies from receiving surplus military weapons and supplies, part of a program under scrutiny after police in combat gear responded to protests in Ferguson, MO.

In each case examined by the Cox Washington bureau, the departments were suspended after losing high-powered weapons.

The Daytona Beach Police Department was blacklisted after reporting a lost Colt M16 rifle in January.

"We still have not been able to find it," Daytona Beach Police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said.

LOS ANGELES -- LAPD SWAT officers are being investigated, suspected of buying handguns and re-selling them with the LAPD "SWAT" insignia attached for a profit,.
Police Chief Charlie Beck faced the LAPD Police Commission Tuesday.

No one was more shocked to hear members of LAPD's elite SWAT team are accused of selling guns than Beck.

"I hold them to the highest standards," said Beck. "I don't expect them to do this kind of thing. They disappoint me the most."

Word of the gun dealings first surfaced in 2010 after a firearm inventory found guns missing. According to an LAPD internal report, SWAT officers bought between 51 and 324 Kimber handguns and allegedly resold them for a profit.

The high-end guns sell online starting at $1,000. The officers are accused of buying them with their department discount for $600, then reselling them for as much as $3,500 with LAPD's insignia on them.

If these weapons were lost, that means the cops weren't using them -- just had them locked up in a closet somewhere, out of sight, out of mind. They don't need this stuff.

"I have an idea that the fire sale prices the Feds give to the local police departments is making the purchase of new toys to the cops irresistible, but that is not the purpose of the program. The Feds are pre-positioning military assets for when the Feds need them. Think the local cops really have need for this stuff and when the Feds turn up and say we are taking this humvee the local cops will protest? Not likely."

6. We just have way too many cops

If we want to stop a police state from happening, we should hire cops by the amount of crime in a given locality.

It is a big racket. Look at a tiny city in San Francisco Bay Area - San Ramon, CA. It has a population of about 60K and has 13.3 cops per 10K population. This sounds lot in comparison to say San Francisco which has 31.7 cops per 10K population. However, San Ramon has virtually no crime whereas San Francisco has tons of homicides, robberies, rapes, burglaries, homeless people etc.

San Ramon is a cushy job and pays more than San Francisco. The cops spend all their time writing speeding tickets and eating donuts.

I have my house inside and out under video surveillance and it cost less than $1,000. These police departments can't put up cameras to guard their property?

There is an internal "Third World" in America. Its the Third world of Blacks and others assigned to the underclass by a system that requires that underclass in order to function . It is that internal Third World in America that was confronted by US authorities at the city of Ferguson, Missouri in the same way the US is accustomed to confronting the Rightful aspirations of the people of the Third world . That way is MILITARIZED ORGANIZED VIOLENCE [MOV rule]....its bristling with guns armored vehicles and camouflaged Militias Robo cops for the miscreants of the US 3 RD world....
