Field Poll: Obama's popularity slips in California
Source: SJ Mercury News
Even as his stock fell in much of the country, President Barack Obama could always look to ultrablue California for strong support.
Not any more.
Obama's approval rating in the Golden State is now at 45 percent, the lowest rating recorded by the Field Poll during his presidency, according to a survey released Tuesday. Forty-three percent of poll respondents say they disapprove of the job the president is doing.

(20,577 posts)on their attacks on Obama. It is going to affect the polls and election results because they are doing to Obama what was done to Carter - painting him as weak. What is counteracting that? - not Obama or anyone else in his administration or Congress. The Dems are letting it happen.

(793 posts)San Diego. They were blaming Sotloff's death on Obama. I switched to KFI which is a big power LA station we get down here and the two swarms "Bros" they have one we're doing the same. They don't even need to draw a direct line of causality. Pattern is simple.
Mention bad news. Say Obama. Mention more completely unrelated bad news. Mention Obama.
Sadly this Jedi Mind Trick seems to work, "This is not the President you had voted for. Move Along"

(6,960 posts)I think a lot of Democrats just don't care much anymore about Pres. Obama.
Frankly, I think he has played this genial, considerate, thoughtful, low-key, lead-from-behind game so long that even Democrats just don't take him too seriously these days.
It is had to stay politically passionate about a leader who is so passionless.
TDale313
(7,820 posts)I've found it kinda hard to stay passionate when he and his administration seem to have spent the last 6 years making it pretty clear that he's just not that into is

(14,449 posts)Make it a one six-year term. Too much crap during last two years for both party President.

(3,982 posts)The 2008 "bump" that came from Bush-weariness and hope for real change has been lost. If that is not proof that people are dying for a real populist I don't know what is.... (why we need to run a populist)
about 5 percentage points for Democrats and about 10 percentage points down for democratic or leaning democrat.

(25,111 posts)approx. 1,500 polled people telling me how I feel in a state of millions or better yet in a country of 300 million. America - numbers not human beings. Governor's election and others are coming in 2014 here in California, Dems will win, the "low" turn out I assume tho.
Looks like Dems will keep the senate and make advances in the house. Majority of Americans do not want troops on the ground, most Dems I know are very pleased with his decisions soooooooooo, again, I do not trust polls. Actually none of them, even PPP who is one of the better ones.

(11,014 posts)Some ultra-liberals want a 100% liberal agenda which cannot happen at once. Change occurs incrementally and with some give and take. That is the political reality.
It is similar to how teabaggers want a 100% conservative agenda all at once and if they don't get it, they will take their ball and go home.
We democrats are wiser and should be a bit pragmatic and patient.
With three or four supreme court nominations looming, we should be firmly behind our most electable candidate. But hell no! She takes money from Wall Street booooooooooooo!

(1,620 posts)We are not post-partisan. In fact, this is a hyper-partisan era. Obama should be working with the Senate to get judges and ambassadors through, as well as doing everything else he can to bring the country to the left (not only executive orders, but strong arming political opponents like W. did). I was a liberal who wanted to see the pendulum come back our way after Obama was elected, and I have been hugely disappointed. Blaming the Republicans all the time is getting old. Yes. They are horrible statesmen, but what the hell is Obama's domestic agenda other than blaming them? The hell if I know.

(32,324 posts)getting judges and others appointed has even pissed off Reid.
Cenk also commented on how if you area Democratic politician, your chances of getting to play a game of golf with the pesident are far less than if you're a powerful Republican or a Big Banker Type.

(45,984 posts)Obama will never have to carry California again.
The Republicrat who has to worry is Diane "NSA domestic spying is about protecting America" Feinstein. I really hope she decides to spend more time with grandkids and great-grandkids instead of seeking another term in Senate at age 85. She's making it harder for me to just vote her by the day. She can forget about getting any of my time or money.
Let's not look back. Instead, we should look forward. Like how we're going to survive the winner 2016 contest between Hillary and the clown car survivor yet to be named. I'd look forward to that election with more enthusiasm if they spent more time competing for my vote than the 1%'s money.
Get out and vote on election day. I will. At least this time I'll vote for Democrats and just hope that they're democrats.

(106,886 posts)Good try Field.
Right now all that matters is keeping control of the Senate, and gaining as much as we can in the House. As you pointed out, President Obama isn't a candidate, so it doesn't really matter what his numbers are, but heck, 68% of Dems still approve, that's not bad at all.
