Defense chief Chuck Hagel says U.S. superiority in the future isn’t guaranteed

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Joseph Morton

NEWPORT, R.I. — The U.S. military directs billions upon billions of dollars every year to contractors who supply it with state-of-the-art warplanes, tanks and other weapons systems.

But it’s high time the Pentagon became a smarter shopper, especially in the face of tighter budgets.

That was the message that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel delivered Wednesday in a hotel ballroom filled with defense industry representatives.

The former Republican senator from Nebraska delivered a speech to the Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance conference in Rhode Island before heading to Wales for a major NATO summit.

Because, you know, we've done so well with it in the past: bullying, swaggering, pushing other countries around, calling them names, and claiming the moral high ground. Why we wouldn't be 'murka without all that shit! Is it ? You decide.
