Ferguson video shows witness raising hands in air

ST. LOUIS (AP) Cellphone video that shows a witness raising his hands in the air immediately after the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old by a white police officer in Ferguson appears to support previous accounts and could bolster arguments that Michael Brown was surrendering when he was shot, legal experts said Friday.
The video obtained by The Associated Press and first aired by CNN shows two landscapers who were working near the street where Brown was shot by officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9. In the video, a man can be heard saying, "He had his (expletive) hands up," while one of the workers raises his own hands in the air.
The man who took the cellphone video, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he feared for his safety, said the voice is that of the worker raising his hands, but that isn't clear on the video.
The workers are not from Ferguson and were employed by a business from Jefferson County, south of St. Louis. They have not come forward publicly and the AP has been unable to reach them.
The comment on the video largely matches those of residents of the apartment complex where the shooting occurred, who said Brown was surrendering when he was killed. The shooting spurred several days of sometimes violent protests in Ferguson. A state grand jury and the Justice Department are investigating, but no decision on whether Wilson will face charges is expected until next month.

(9,753 posts)With six or eight witnesses saying he murdered a kid, and with only his own story saying otherwise, would have been arrested the same day. Sure, he'd be out on bail now, but why in the name of anything that makes sense do they need to wait for a grand jury to determine whether they'll arrest? If the grand jury comes up with something exculpatory, they can drop charges. That's the way the system is supposed to work.
At bottom, this is a straightforward gang shooting (involving a better-financed gang than most), and while the officer must of course have his day in court, there is no good reason that he hasn't been arrested already.

(7,512 posts)Even with direct video of the murder and the medical examiner listing homicide as the cause of death, Daniel Pantaleo is still a free man. Why? Why are executions by cops a free pass for the cops?
And you're right, they as well be a gang. The Blue Mafia.

Footage of the moments immediately following the fatal shooting of black teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri in August shows a witness on the scene saying the unarmed 18-year-olds hands were raised when he was killed.
The Guardian reports:
The cell phone footage, released by CNN, of two construction workers at the scene early last month appears to support accounts by other witnesses that Brown was retreating or surrendering when he was shot by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, legal experts said on Friday.
The video shows one of the men raising his hands immediately after the fatal shooting and shouting, He had his fuckin hands up.
The man told CNN he heard a gunshot, then another about 30 seconds later. The cop didnt say get on the ground. He just kept shooting, said the unnamed contractor. He added that he saw Browns fatal head wound and repeated that the teenagers hands were up.
The men told CNN they were 50ft (15m) away when Wilson opened fire. The second man said he saw Brown running away from a police car. The teenager put his hands up, and the officer was chasing him. Wilson then fired a shot at Brown while his back was turned.

(7,650 posts)The contractor obviously knows good police work when he sees it, so he raised his arms to show his relief that the officer was able to empty his gun into the enraged Brown, who was charging head first into the ground. Case closed.
