Kerry: US Won’t Rule Out Working With Iran Against Islamic State

Source: Associated Press

By Lori Hinnant And Lara Jakes, The Associated Press on September 15, 2014.

PARIS – Diplomats from around the world pledged to fight Islamic State militants “by any means necessary” as Iraq asked allies to thwart the extremists wherever they find sanctuary. Iran and the United States ruled out co-ordinating with each other, leaving Baghdad’s government caught between two powerful and antagonistic allies.

Neither Iran nor Syria, which together share most of Iraq’s borders, was invited to the international conference in Paris, which opened as a pair of French reconnaissance jets took off over Iraqi skies. But the State Department left open the possibility of new discussions with Iran later in the week, while precluding any military co-operation.

Kerry said the U.S. won’t shut the door on the possibility of working with Iran against a common enemy in the Islamic State militant group, but the two nations won’t co-ordinate on military action.

But Kerry ruled out working with the Syrian government, although he vaguely described ways to communicate to avoid mistakes should the U.S. and its allies begin bombing the Sunni extremist group’s safe haven there.

how ISIS is "going to kill all Iranians" if they do not send any army to fight them....and they are right next door.

Only Americans with the largest armed forces ever in the history of mankind and half a planet away, seems to be frightened like children at everything under some one else's bed.

Put you man pants on America, quit being terrorized by the terrorists and your own mass media and idiot self serving politicians.

Pathetic.

AFter all, we created the damn group and armed them heavily when they were the opposition in Syria. This is just a convenient pretext for more war, more weapons, more profit for MIC, more opportunitities to cut funding for workers and empoverish them so they will work for less money, more opportunities to gut the education system so folks aren't smart enough to get good jobs. Yes, the Bushes, Cheneys, MIC is smiling all the way to the bank. The rest of us are sad/mad or would be if we looked beyond the war drums of the entire MSM. Will no one in authority tell the truth? This includes anyone in the present administration.

Don't think so.

ISIS will kill every patriot as they sleep in their beds.

There IS hysteria, mass media generated hysteria, but not near enough for a real war, the polls show that clearly enough.

No wonder the war mongers are hysterical, the Calm One and his strategy is being backed by the majority of non hysterical folk.

You know, the ones with the .50 caliber machine gun in the bed? Then they could drive around and terrorize everyone. Kinda like your local police department, only better organized.

They are supporting both the Iraqi and the Syrian governments, with boots on the ground.

And the US struggles to create a coherent diplomacy around all this. I don't envy Mr. Kerry.

I had no doubt that going into Iraq in 2003 was a mistake. This situation seems to me to be far more complex.
I think Kerry is a man of integrity and I bet he still loses sleep over his 2003 IWR vote. I trust his judgement, because I think he is a man with a strong conscience. To be a global figure trying to clean up the blowback that he was part of creating must be a very heavy load.
