Weekly Address: America is Leading the World
Source: White House
In this weeks address, the President reiterated the forceful and optimistic message of American leadership that he delivered in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly earlier this week. America is leading the world against the most pressing challenges, including the fight to degrade and destroy ISIL, the effort to stop the Ebola epidemic, and the movement to confront the threat from climate change. The world looks to America and its commitment to freedom in the face of uncertainly, and as the President said, it will continue to do so for generations to come.

(27,247 posts)Jingoism, which is a word used to refer to ultranationalism, comes from an English operetta from the 1870s which contained the following lyrics:
We don't want to fight
But, by jingo, if we do
We've got the men, we've got the guns
And we've got the money, too

(85,373 posts)Most nations have no desire to FOLLOW the US; they do the minimum to keep from being invaded or droned. And if they can pick up some quick cash, or nice armaments, they might sit up and beg prettily.
But that's not following. And that's not leading.

I think it's a great thing, this President (and his admin) got 50! countries, including ME countries to fight off the IS barbarian hoards.
Turkey just offered ground troops! and they will train in Saudi Arabia, at SA costs. That area needed more ground troops.
The Bushcheney war machine never was able to achieve any of these type of changes. Finally the Middle East countries will handle much more of their own 'problems', use their own people on the ground, and spend their own money.

(1,615 posts)unfortunately "pre-emptive strike" doesn't sound much like "self-defense".
