Source: Arab Times

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: Individuals who commit serious violations and import or store nuclear waste in Kuwait will be given the capital punishment, life imprisonment or fined one million dinars, as contained in the Environmental Protection Law that will come into effect on Sunday, Oct 12, reports Al-Rai daily.

The law also contains controversial provisions that ban smoking in public places and punish violators with a fine of 100 dinars, indicating those picking rose flowers will be fined 250 dinars and 500 dinars for dumping waste indiscriminately.

The law, which was passed by National Assembly in the previous session and published in the official gazette, stipulated the establishment of military apparatus affiliated to the Ministry of Interior with environmental officers empowered to operate in the capacity of police officers who shall be tasked with monitoring and follow-up of all signs of environmental abuse.
