Obama Cancels Trip To Hold Cabinet Meeting On Ebola

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is cancelling political travel to meet with his Cabinet on the Ebola outbreak.

The White House says Obama is calling off a planned trip to New Jersey and Connecticut and instead will convene Cabinet officials coordinating the government's Ebola response at the White House.

The change comes as a second health worker in Dallas who provided care for the first Ebola patient diagnosed in the U.S. has tested positive for the disease.

Obama had planned to speak at a fundraiser for Senate Democrats in Union, New Jersey, and then headline a rally for Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy.

They're saying it has been "postponed", maybe they'll reschedule.

him for. He's being a leader. He's canceling plans to shift focus to a command-center-type involvement. He's putting a national crisis in the top priority position for his attention. And that's a good thing.

Besides, you KNOW he'd get shit from everywhere if he kept to the original schedule and didn't respond. At least he isn't hanging around for a 20+ minute photo op (some accounts said it was as much as 45 minutes) with the folks in the back room before climbing back onto Air Force One, the way bushie-boy did after being informed that the World Trade Center'd been attacked. Sat there. Then mosey'd on back to the back room to meet-'n'-greet and pose for some nice photos with the folks. Only WE here on the left made an issue out of that - and as usual back then, nobody bothered to listen to us.

Yeah, he's showing leadership. Kinda has to. After all, we don't have one omnibus position that can helm this (since Congress hasn't seen fit to approve a Surgeon General), it's gotta be him. And I feel good knowing he's on the case. I like the calm, reasoned, adult approach - A LOT more than the rootin' tootin' swaggerin' cowboy schtick concerned only about proving how tough 'n' bad-ass they are or how big a profit they can make. I like the fact that the adults REALLY ARE back in charge and have stayed in charge for six years now.

12. On the positive side (regarding the rally tonight).....

....The Connecticut Democratic Party just sent out an email to everyone who has tickets for tonight's rally.

It will be rescheduled, and those with tickets will get first priority for the rally.

Also, watched Obama's review of the meeting this afternoon - looks like he and his people have a handle on this outbreak. All things considered, three cases, two of which being hospital workers in Dallas, this could have been much worse. In comparison, in the SARS outbreak back around 2003 there were 27 cases.
