Twelve Nobel Peace Prize winners penned an open letter to President Barack Obama urging his administration to release the a U.S. Senate report on the CIA's use of torture.

In the letter, released Sunday night on TheCommunity.com, the laureates asked for "full disclosure to the American people of the extent and use of torture and rendition by American soldiers, operatives, and contractors, as well as the authorization of torture and rendition by American officials." The letter also pushed for a clear plan for the closing of Guantanamo Bay and other international sites where the U.S. has engaged in torture.

The letter was signed by José Ramos-Horta, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, F.W. De Klerk, Leymah Gbowee, Muhammad Yunus, John Hume, Bishop Carlos X. Belo, Betty Williams, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Jody Williams, Oscar Arias Sanchez and Mohammad ElBaradei.

The laureates spoke out sharply against any use of torture, but said that the U.S.' tactics were particularly troubling.

"Particularly troubling" indeed, given the fact we crow to the rest of the world that we are the model of a benevolent democracy!

and the torture report will be used as a "how to" in the future against any American soldiers or civilians who come under hostile custody. And what exactly will be we be able to complain about?

And who can blame them - after all he US have tortured others - in Afghanistan, Iraq and a few selected other nations over the last decade or two... I know from the onset when the first rumors of torture being used in Bagram AFB back in 2002 - that this would not end to well - After all the US had supported and accepted the Geneva conventions - who was made possible after what we know as World War Two - where soldiers had been killed, tortured and used as slave labour.... And it was accepted as International Law until GWB was not willing to let some old treaty making him following the rules anymore...

If a full disclose of the torture report ever got to the world - it could be used to arrest - prosecute and put in prison the ones who accepted the use of torture - and who benefited from the torture.... As it is - I doubt US would be in a better position as it is - in large part of the World the repetition of the United States of America is already down the tube - and could not be in any worse condition as it is... A full disclose of the whole thing - and then the prosecution of the criminals behind it - would do much to repair the damage who was made able by the Administration of George Walker Bush jr...

I am in favor of full disclosure of the report with NO censorship. The reason you cite are the true reason they do not want the report out, I don't think they give a damn about what happens to Americans in the future as a result of their action. However, at this point, I see ZERO chance that anyone from BushCo will ever be charged with a crime. This country will NEVER admit to war crimes, no matter how much evidence their is.

It's all over the news. He's stalling on orders from Brennan so they can spike it because they are counting on Republicans taking the Senate in Nov. How disgusting is that? What happened to Hope and Change? It was just a trick played on us. That's why he stacked his admin with war hawks, lobbyists and, Hell, he even kept a Republican heavily right wing fanatic as head of DEA along with a bunch of Neo-Liberal Clintonites. They support war and as reported last week they are considering allowing torture overseas again. Obama is not in charge. It's anyone's guess as to why. I don't think he was in on the Scam in 2007 but they got to him and persuaded him somehow to support the NeoConning proWar,ProSurveillance,ProPrisons agenda. Now he answers to the intelligence agencies and shadow government military contractors. How sickening. My favorite part is watching democratic supporters try to excuse and justify what they used to be against all to support one man's image.
