At least four people were killed and five injured when a small plane crashed into an airport building in Wichita, Kansas, officials have said.
Firefighters responded at about 09:50 local time (14:50 GMT) to a "horrific fire" after a plane crash-landed, Fire Chief Ron Blackwell said.
Four people remain missing, but a search was put on hold after a portion of the building collapsed.
The Beechcraft aircraft lost power shortly after take-off.

A plane crashed into a FlightSafety building at Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita, Kansas, the airport confirmed, killing at least four people inside, leaving five hurt and at least five unaccounted for, authorities said.
Witnesses reported the plane down around 10 a.m. Central Time Thursday. The airport described it as a small plane.
Some 100 people were inside the FlightSafety International building at the time of the crash, fire officials said. The business provides flight training and has several simulators inside.
"They finally got the fire out. You can't tell is was a plane, it looks like a go-kart frame," Ryan Weatherby told the Daily News around 10:45 local time after seeing the fire.

(68,644 posts)Probably just a typical GOP pre-election hijink to get Kansans to vote for law and order candidates in a very contentious election.

(11,519 posts)First off I know exactly how big a King Air is. If in fact they're correct about it being a King Air it would have taken all of about 30 seconds online to find it's dimensions etc.
Rant over on modern "reporters"..... I certainly hope and pray that everyone has survived this (though seeing the smoke and flames I can't see how).

(56 posts)It is a twin turbo prop, seats maybe 8 people and can weigh close to 12,000 lbs. There are different models, but it isn't a light plane like a Cessna 172. It isn't as big as a 30 passenger SAAB regional airliner turboprop either.

(2,188 posts)Why would firefighters even be in that building? Wouldn't it be a huge danger to potentially collapse?

(5,790 posts)Ryan said that the King Air had recently been inspected, and that Goldstein was ferrying the plane for its new owner. The 1999 King Air B200 was recently sold by Beechcraft, and was en route to Mena, Arkansas. Rose Aircraft Services in Mena said the plane was coming for painting and interior refurbishing.
Firefighters have resumed searching the building, following concerns over structural integrity. Crews said the crash impacted the north side of the building, which houses four flight simulators. They've been able to search three of those rooms, but are unable to get into the fourth due to collapse. Heavy equipment and a structural engineer will be needed to complete the search.
