'Treated like cattle': Yazidi women sold, raped, enslaved by ISIS

Source: CNN

Erbil, Iraq (CNN) -- Jana was a 19-year-old in her final year of high school, with dreams of becoming a doctor. Then, ISIS came to her village last August, and her world collapsed.

She described to me in chilling detail, how the jihadis first demanded that members of her Yazidi religious minority convert to Islam. Then they stripped villagers of their jewelry, money and cellphones. They separated the men from the women.

A United Nations report explained what happened next. ISIS "gathered all the males older than 10 years of age at the local school, took them outside the village by pick-up trucks, and shot them." Among those believed dead were Jana's father and eldest brother.

A different fate lay in store for the women....

It's Juan Cole from the University of Michigan. He called this bunch a brutish criminal syndicate from day one. It's just a bunch of alienated young people with violent tendencies being manipulated by the ringleaders peddling a story of a religious war. And they are bastards.

This is a radical and violent Islamic movement that is having considerable success in capturing and holding territory in the middle east.

I think those who loudly claim ISIS adherents are just insane criminals, and not an Islam-inspired movement, is wrong, and/or dishonest. Even when Juan Cole says it.

India was 90% Hindu and 10% Buddhist.

Then suddenly the invaders came from persia and central asia, killed the men who refused to convert to Islam and raped/enslaved the women. Mahmoud Gaznavi, Shaheen, Malik Kafur, Babur and the moguls, Qutubuddin Aibak, Mohammad Ghauri, Nadir Shah and others were all extremely violent, extremely brutal and driven by fervor just like ISIS.

Indonesia and Malaysia were 90% Buddhist.

Now India is 15% Muslim, Malaysia is 70% Muslim and Indonesia is 99% Muslim.

Before someone labels this as Islamophobia, the information contained herein is factual.

Actually, most people in Pakistan, if they traced their roots with objectivity, will find that one of their forefathers was forcibly converted to save his/his family's life or because their female ancestors were enslaved and their original culture wiped out.

The same in Bangladesh during Siraz ud Daulah's rule.

Persia used to be Zorastrian untill they were all converted by invaders.

It's ironic considering how hard it was to convert them and how proud most Iranians are of their history that the state is now so staunchly Islamic!

They are a criminal syndicate, with most of their fighters and funds coming from Turkey and Central Asia. My in-laws in Syria had the misfortune of hearing them as they entered their town and said hardly anyone could understand a word they were saying.

Remember the Iraqi's throwing babies out of incubators?

I am not saying ISIS are good guys, farm from it. But let's say none of this happened. Would anyone put it past the Kurds (who want our help) to make this up or grossly exaggerate it all?

Who says the Iraqi's weren't brutal to the Kuwaiti civilians? (Although it is worth note that roughly 200 died, which is nothing compared to the terror that the US and Israel regularly inflict on civilians).

The point is this: In war there is a lot of bullshit propaganda. The incubator babies story is an example of a situation where while the Iraqi's were brutal to Kuwaitis they propaganda went far beyond the reality.

I am simply suggesting to take the most extreme of these ISIS stories with a grain of salt.

No doubt any horrific story involving Islamists is hyped to death on Western media, and as mentioned in another thread so-called Christian countries have the highest rape rates and don't get any press. But it doesn't mean this is all made up. That incubator story was one story, with one "witness" a daughter of a diplomat of Kuwait. Here we have numerous witnesses and awful images of crucifixions, stonings, and beheadings video as well.

I'm as liberal as they get, and I'm for some kind of greater military action. Sometimes liberals conflate all military response with illegal corporate directed pillaging such as the Iraq invasion was. This is very different.

The problem is these thugs mix with local populations and so boots on the ground is the only way to fight them without massive innocent civilian casualties. That didn't bother the shock n awe neo-cons with their daisy cutter carpet bombing of civilians in Baghdad, but it would me.

In the Iliad, the Achaeans (Greeks) are burning and pillaging the countryside around Ilium (Troy) killing the men and taking the women and children as slaves. The story is about a quarrel between Agamemnon, the King of Mycenae and High King of the Greek city states and Achilles, a lesser King and top banana warrior, over the slave/concubine, Briseis, who was taken captive by Achillies after witnessing her husband and family slaughtered.

It seems nothing has changed.
