'If we vote, we win. If we don't, we lose,' Biden says in Las Vegas
Source: Las Vegas Sun
Vice President Joe Biden laid out a simple formula for Nevada Democrats on election day at a voter rally in Las Vegas today. "If we vote, we win. If we don't, we lose," Biden told a crowd of several hundred people Saturday afternoon at the local plumbers and pipefitters union building near Lamb Boulevard and Bonanza Road.
... "When we keep the Senate, when Lucy (Flores) wins, the first thing you're going to see, all of a sudden you'll see this gridlock broken," Biden said. "All of a sudden you'll begin to see America work again."
... Biden started his speech by immediately targeting outside groups that have funneled millions of dollars in dark money into attack ads against Democratic candidates.
... Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford was joined at the Biden rally Saturday by fellow Democratic Rep. Dina Titus and lieutenant governor candidate Lucy Flores. Television star Eva Longoria was also on hand to pump up supporters.

(4,373 posts)The Republican gov has no real opposition, no U.S. Senate race...early voting, which normally trends Dem, isn't this time. I'm glad to see Biden this week and Bill Clinton last week - we need all of the help we can get.

(18,791 posts)It's just unimaginable to me because if we don't, Pukes, Baggers and KKKoch Terrorists win.
Unacceptable.

(4,373 posts)but for the first time since early voting in Nevada more Republicans have cast ballots than Dems - see Ralston https://www.ralstonreports.com/blog/early-voting-blog-updated-every-day-numbers-and-analysis . I'd love to think that some of them have converted, but I'm afraid it's going to be tough for us to keep the seats.

(3,864 posts)so did we win?
voting is the least effective political "action" there is.
it exists in order to give legitimacy to the crooks.
don't be complicit!

(15,882 posts)Some might be disillusioned, but they are just as broken as the adults who raised them, even if the adults don't want to admit what they've accomplished.
It will not get better until they ALL join against their common enemy.
And that means the adults need to learn to fix themselves first, else the kids will never have a chance.

(62,270 posts)That generation had it easy. The workload modern young adults have to deal with in comparison to the previous generation is absolutely insane.
Time heals old wounds, demographics are one way. 2016 will be just another transition administration (even if the Republicans somehow win), 2020, 2024, we might have a chance to really enact actual, substantive reforms.

(15,882 posts)That provided opportunities which people took advantage of. Most everyone I knew worked quite hard until they were betrayed by the wealthy and their political lap dogs. The people who have come after not only do not have those opportunities, but many things have been put in place to help the finance sector steal from their labor, like 401Ks.
There is no one group that is the problem, just like there is no one group that will fix it. It will take everyone, old and young, cooperating against their opponent. Demographics will just provide new tyrants unless the people cooperate, and they ain't showing much sign of it.
First, they have to realize they have a problem. And they will kill anyone who tells them they do. Not necessarily literally (though sometimes) but they will nearly fight to the death any attempt to change. They have to do it, and based on who influences them, there is little you or anyone can do about it - most any of the normal activities to gain support won't work.
Read this, if you like. It will give you an idea of what we are up against.
There are ways, but it is a long, long road, like more than a couple of lifetimes now, for anything other than superficial trading of the hammer used to beat the working folks into submission.

(62,270 posts)Simple as that.
Notice a date trend? Blame Clinton, hell, blame the Democrats, but this could not have happened without Reganomics, ALEC, Heritage Foundation, Heartland, and so many others. And it wasn't just at the Presidential level, it was local, state level changes. The Democrats actually tried to fix it with Fannie-Mae and Freddie-Mac, but they were naive about CDOs and the crap repealing Glass-Stegal would usher in (and Clinton says it was a mistake, btw).
It was a miscalculation, not an attempt to kill a generation, and yes, it has killed the current generation, it will never recover, it will always be bitter, it will take a generation to fix this mess. It is quite unfortunate.
jtuck004
(15,882 posts)identify where they might have help or support and where they don't, define where things were stolen, try for recovery, etc.
It wasn't a miscalculation. It was deliberate, actions designed to make more money for people who already had it, and they knew, and it is in writing that they knew, that this would cause massive loss, and break the lives of millions of people. There are dozens of books, and more than one has accounts of the evidence we have now.
But that was then. On to solutions, leave these thieves in the dust of History.
Problem is we need trillions to make up for it, and that all comes well after people realize that they have a choice between saving the master's house and their own.
And except for brief periods, that is something at least half the working people have never been able to set aside, no matter what - they are still more concerned about, and willing to die to save their master's house than they are their own, or their neighbors. That is still the greatest problem we have to overcome.
Until we, as a people, own our own minds again, there is no hope.

(62,270 posts)But they're being instructed by liberals who say that their Democrats aren't liberal enough for them. So why bother? Why bother at all. I think it is a monumental mistake. Get back the House and Senate and those student loans get taken care of quick. But nope.

(3,864 posts)bec. this great democracy gives you total freedom to choose which lobbyist will represent you.
"When we keep the Senate, when Lucy (Flores) wins, the first thing you're going to see, all of a sudden you'll see this gridlock broken," Biden said. "All of a sudden you'll begin to see America work again."
where is that cartoon of Lucy pulling away the football when I need it?
"Vote for me, and I'll set you free."

(129,003 posts)How stupid your repeated exhortations to not vote sounds when elections are not just "national", but also involve state and local officials too. And no, not all candidates, at every level of government, are tied to lobbyists.

(8,203 posts)this is an excerpt from a Chris Weigant blog at HP -
DEM horror story - perhaps taken to extreme, but food for thought.
Congress promptly passes a long list of legislation: To get an abortion, American women will now be required to travel to Canada or Europe -
Legally, women's pay cannot exceed three-fifths of men's pay who perform the same job.
The credit ceiling will not rise, ever again.
The Department of Education is abolished, as is the Department of Labor and the Internal Revenue Service. Unions are declared illegal.
The income tax will be replaced with a new 35 percent national sales tax, which is fully rebated to those who make over $100,000 per year.
The Social Security trust fund will be turned over to Donald Trump to administer as he sees fit.
Obamacare, of course, is repealed (and replaced with absolutely nothing).
The federal minimum wage is abolished.
The military and Border Patrol budgets are tripled, while social spending approaches zero.
Anyone who travels to any country in Africa will now have to spend three weeks at Guantanamo Bay before being allowed back into the country. All of these bills are wrapped into one gigantic budget bill, which appears on President Obama's desk.
WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO GET OUT THE VOTE! - I'm not ready to give up - are you>VOTE! - WIN - WIN - WIN - OR LOSE - LOSE - LOSE!
