Nurse: No option but to fight Ebola quarantine

Source: AP-EXCITE

FORT KENT, Maine (AP) — A nurse who successful fought Maine's quarantine for health care workers who have treated Ebola patients says she had no option but to challenge how medical professionals were being treated.

Kaci Hickox says in an interview with the Maine Sunday Telegram ( http://bit.ly/1wUdMDb ) she was fighting for the rights of other U.S. medical workers who are trying to bring the deadly outbreak under control in West Africa.

After she arrived in Maine last week, state health officials went to court in an attempt to bar her from crowded public places. A judge ruled Friday she must continue daily monitoring of her health but can go wherever she pleases.

But Hickox now says she will respect the wishes of town residents and avoid going into town during the illness's 21-day incubation period, which for her ends Nov. 10.

that a medical professional, who risked her life to save others, would try to hurt anyone.

I commend her strength and determination

successfully defended the rights (and dignity) of HCWs fighting Ebola, she is perfectly willing to self-isolate, even though she knows she wouldn't infect anyone before manifesting symptoms that mark the contagious stage of the disease. She doesn't *need* to avoid people if she isn't showing symptoms of contagion-level infection, but she is willing to, because she knows that will help people feel safer.

But she also wanted HCWs to feel that *they* are safe when they come home.

Of Ebola panic. All panic-mongers can look to Ms. Hickox for a person who really cares and knows about public health. She shamed all off you. Bravo, Ms. Hickox!

America's sporting events are where the masses are gathered to celebrate and discover that the only heroes are military ones,...salute the flag and cheer for the Fatherland, Patriotic Americans!

The cameras are running.

Her "welcome" home was so abominable, and so very unecessary. The teaparty bullies brought the court fight on themselves.

She is part of her community. Of course she wants her neighbors to feel comfortable and safe.

are those whose irrational FEAR of Ebola (Ebola Derangement Syndrome) think it should ENTITLE them to abuse healthcare workers by illogically (and illegally) quarantining them in spite of scientific evidence that such quarantine is unnecessary.
