Player with brain tumor, Lauren Hill, fulfills basketball dream

CINCINNATI (AP) In between making two layups that brought a packed arena to its feet, Lauren Hill spent much of this inspiring game sitting on the bench wearing sunglasses and headphones.
The bright gym and roar of the crowd are still special to Hill, an inoperable brain tumor, though, has made her extremely sensitive to sensations her teammates and opponents take for granted.
The freshman forward for Division III Mount St. Josephs made an uncontested left-handed layup for the opening basket of Sundays 66-55 victory over Hiram College. Hill has just months to live because of the tumor, which affects her coordination, forcing the right-hander to shoot with her left hand.
She made the last shot of the game, too, returning with 26.5 seconds remaining to sink a layup right-handed for the games final basket.

(3,112 posts)again on one of the Sunday shows today.... honestly, my God.... overwhelmingly wonderful, poignant and bittersweet story... you just wish you could hug this girl forever. And the whole team, the coach, the opposing players.... it just reaffirms your faith in humanity. People ARE basically good. Everywhere. It's true, they just are. We get caught up in the daily cut and thrust of life, and of politics and of right vs. left, good vs. evil etc.... but when you see this girl's story, and her bravery, and her wonderful outlook on life, you just have to stop and count your own blessings. She knows her days are not without number, and she chooses to live what life she has left to it's absolute fullest. Good for her, and God bless her, Sweet Lauren.
