(1,968 posts)Whilst listening to it, I kept wondering why the constant smear campaign against witnesses. It's almost like...like he was trying to assure there would be an explosion.

(34,195 posts)I thought he was explaining why some who claimed they saw something really didn't, or changed their stories. Thus the claims Brown was shot while standing still with his hands up were false.

(777 posts)it was not a smear campaign at all , neither was his press conference " bizarre" . He laid out the case clearly and understandably .
Witnesses cannot always be relied on , and they contradict themselves in follow-up interviews , which might question their veracity .
Of course , if you you are biased in your opinions before all the evidence is presented , then you will feel justice has not been done correctly , meaning , not to your liking . True justice tries to be as impartial as possible . Justice is based on facts , not opinion .

(34,195 posts)That's what I thought. Plus all the evidence presented to the Grand Jury is being made public.

(14,113 posts)This was not a prosecutor speaking, but a defense attorney for Darren Wilson. If this is a sample of what he presented to the Grand Jury, no wonder there was no indictment.
In 28 years of law enforcement, I had exactly one cast presented to a Grand Jury which found no true bill, among hundreds of other cases that were indicted. The one No True Bill I got was a complicated financial case and I failed to get them to understand it. My bad.
This case was botched from the beginning, and probably botched deliberately.

I think almost everyone on DU would profit from the discussion and I know I would.
Hat tip!

(14,113 posts)Exactly how far was Darren Wilson from Michael Brown when the fatal shot was fired.
He didn't state it, and none of the reporters asked it. If it was anything over about ten feet, the guy should have been indicted. If it was more than that, how in the hell was Wilson "threatened". If he wasn't threatened, all the conflicting witness statements are totally irrelevant to getting an indictment.
This case is complicated because the cops and prosecutor made it sound complicated.

(31,849 posts)Which is the exact opposite strategy for any prosecutor ... seeking an indictment.
lol - in "28 years as a cop" you never heard of the 21-foot rule?
I call shenanigans.
CanonRay
(14,113 posts)there was no exact rule, but you had to be physically threatened. Without a weapon, there isn't much a guy can do from more than ten feet. No shenanigans, but different places have different thresholds. And WAS he more than your magic 21 feet away?

(27,464 posts)to feel sick to my stomach. There are a few good people here who trust the system and will find themselves relieved at the outcome. The rest of us understand what this means, and we brace ourselves.

(7,650 posts)That sounds too outrageous to view, but I agree with you anyway. I'm hitting the point where I want way fewer news conferences by multitudes of CopState Talking Heads telling "the community" to be calm, that peaceful ways are best, la-la-la. By design, and visually, they villainize the protestors. I'm seeing all manner of video on cable news depicting cars and businesses burning, even though nothing of the sort is happening right now. So people watching now will figure the police riot that I expect will happen later tonight is justified by last night's violence.

(22,000 posts)and that all the witnesses that said that Brown was the victim were lying. That a fucking douchebag.
