Five Children Presumed Dead in Texas Mobile Home Fire

Five children ages 16 and younger are presumed dead after a fast-moving fire consumed their mobile home early Tuesday in rural southeast Texas, officials said. Two adults, identified as Johnny Hernandez and Annabelle Ortiz, and one of their kids escaped the blaze, which broke out around 5 a.m. local time in Edna, about 100 miles southwest of Houston. Ortiz was taken to the hospital, while Hernandez was treated for minor injuries at the scene, Jackson County Sheriff A.J. Louderback told NBC News.

While Louderback couldn’t officially confirm the identities, the children were described as being as old as high school age, the Victoria Advocate reported. The surviving child was 2 years old, according to the newspaper. “We’re taking it really hard. It’s probably one of the biggest tragedies in Edna, in all around,” Hernandez’s brother, Rico Hernandez, told the Advocate. The fire remains under investigation, NBC affiliate KPRC reported. "It was an old trailer so maybe it was something electrical,” Rico Hernandez added. “I’m guessing it was cold last night so something with the heater."

since they are in Texas they stand a very real chance of being executed by the state who will claim they set the fire deliberately. See Todd Cameron Willingham.

Texas "fire investigators" practices are "folkloric" rather than scientific.

Your post is rather callous in the face of tragedy. What kind of jokes do you make about children burning to death in blue states?

Willigham was executed for a fire that killed his children, based on evidence provided by investigators who were completely discredited. When an independent investigation into the affair was about to release a report pretty much confirming that an innocent man was executed, Rick Perry fired the chairman, and replaced him with a lackey who shut down the committee before it could deliver its report.

So, I am not joking. Texas compounded the tragic death of children with executing their father based on scientifically bogus findings.

Firetraps, as well as tornado magnets.

ALL people should be allowed at least safe shelter.

No one should have to live in fear other than those who scheme to use and abuse others.

Mostly due to electrical fires, or things too close to the heater going up in flames.

Like clockwork, a harbinger of winter.

but some of those , older, homes have aluminum wiring.
May the 'Spirits' of the 'afterlife' be with the grieving families.
