Jury weighs sentence for Texas man convicted in revenge plot
| December 11, 2014 | Updated: December 11, 2014 12:24pm

ROCKWALL, Texas (AP) — Prosecutors say the man convicted of capital murder in a revenge plot against a North Texas district attorney and others would remain a threat even if imprisoned for life.

Jurors heard testimony Thursday as they decide whether 47-year-old Eric Williams should be executed or spend the rest of his life in prison.

He was convicted last week of fatally shooting Cynthia McLelland, who along with her husband, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, were found dead last year in their home near Dallas. Williams is also accused of killing Mike McLelland and an assistant prosecutor, though he wasn't tried for those deaths.

Defense attorneys say Williams would be harmless in prison. Prosecutors disagree, saying the former county official launched a revenge plot after being convicted of stealing county-owned computer monitors.

The defense didn't really put up much of a case. From what I heard today, the majority of the people the defense is putting up to plea for a life sentence hadn't seen the guy in 20+ years.
