Jury selection under way in John Edwards trial

Source: Associated Press

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- After years of investigation, denials and delays, jury selection began Thursday for the criminal trial of former presidential candidate John Edwards.

Edwards sat at the defense table as about 180 potential jurors filed into a Greensboro, N.C., courtroom. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles then asked Edwards to stand and face them. He grinned and nodded as the judge introduced him.

The trial had been scheduled to begin in late January, but was delayed after Edwards' lawyers told the judge he had a serious heart problem that required treatment. Compared with the quick-smiling candidate of four years ago, the former U.S. senator, now 58, appeared slightly gaunt in the cheeks but still had no trace of gray in his carefully parted hair.

Edwards faces six criminal counts related to nearly $1 million in secret payments made by two campaign donors to help hide the married Democrat's pregnant mistress as he sought the White House in 2008.

this will have on those poor kids. Thinking of Kate just breaks my heart. She has had to assume to much burden in all of this mess John created. Plus having lost her mother and trying to step into a motherly role for her young siblings.

He's political toast, he is legal toast

But should he serve a prison sentence?

I don't think so

Just let it be

Don't talk about poverty in this country while running for president as a democrat.

No way in hell they would have dug up this much dirt on a GOPer. And no way the GOPer base would have turned on their own the way dems have turned on Edwards.

He could have kept it in his pants while running for President in the post Bill Clinton era. He could have found someone to screw who wasn't a total nutjob. He could have left Elizabeth and the kids at home while campaigning, and not trotted them out as a reason he was better than everybody else. He could have used a freaking rubber, for crissakes.

He deserves whatever is coming to him. Now that the Repuke contest is over, the media will have full time to devote to his complete and absolute embarassment.

while he was campaigning.

Not bragging but Ms. goclark looked pretty good that day.

He had just spoken to a huge crowd of Dedicated Democrats and there were lots of happy Democrats behind the ropes at the exit door.

I was with my male cousin .... we love to go to Political Events.

Well - as he walked up the line, he spotted goclark and he didn't take his eyes off of me. My male cousin whispered " He is flirting with you ~ isn't he married?? "

I was shocked when he headed right to me and took my hand, looked me right in the eyes and asked me my name. He really turned me off !

I couldn't believe he was acting like that and my cousin said , " that man is way Too bold!"

So ~ when I heard all the tricks he was turning on his wonderful and beautiful wife, I am sorry to say, I was not surprised.

What a scum.
