Ohio police-union campaign urges support for cops

Source: AP

The Ohio Fraternal Order of Police is urging residents to support officers by signing an online petition and submitting photos of themselves through a new website in an effort that also includes radio ads and a social-media campaign.

The FOP says the site, StandWithCops.org, is “a response to recent controversies that have hurt the relationship between police and the communities they serve.”

Ohio FOP President Jay McDonald said last week that those cases include the fatal police shootings of 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Cleveland, 22-year-old John Crawford III at a Wal-Mart store in Beavercreek and 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. — all of which have made national news and spurred protests and further investigations.

They also prompted some people to approach officers on the streets or call their local departments with messages of support, and that is the sentiment the union hopes to highlight with the “Stand With Cops” effort.

2. No one would have to urge support for cops if they policed themselves. Instead they stand square

behind the bad cops because it is tradition. As long as they continue to support people like Wilson there can be no respect. Find a way to have independent investigations in cases like that and then we will talk about respect and support. Also stop killing people for idiot small offenses.

So let me get this straight.... the police want people to voluntarily to submit mugshots and sign their names... sounds just as legit as the police department that asked citizens to let them voluntarily search their houses for guns.

If they want better relations with the community perhaps they shouldn't publicly execute peoples 12 year olds.

Just saying. Many people have been shot under such circumstances.

or admit that any cop has done anything wrong. I think the onus is on the police to repair the damage done, not on the citizens that pay their salaries.

If not all cops are bad cops, then the so-called good ones need to stand up for what is right. This band of brothers mentality is getting really old.

Does somebody need a pat on the head, and an "attaboy/girl?"

Yeah it sucks to have everyone hate you. Maybe you could stop being hateful (ie shooting unarmed people)?
