Joan Rivers was supposed to have a routine endoscopy at the Upper East Side clinic, but the 81-year-old comedian wound up having a heart attack and slipping into a coma. The clinic will lose Medicare and Medicaid funding when it loses accreditation.

The private Upper East Side clinic where Joan Rivers went into cardiac arrest is about to see business flatline.

The feds are yanking the accreditation of Yorkville Endoscopy, meaning that starting Jan. 21 the clinic will see a massive money hemorrhage when it no longer gets Medicare and Medicaid funding.

“Based on the findings of the survey completed on December 17, 18 and 19, 2014, Yorkville Endoscopy no longer meets the requirements for participation as a supplier of services in the Medicare program,” the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said in a statement Monday.

That alone would be reason to never go there, and for authorities to sanction them. nt Hekate Jan 2015 #8

I have not read who did the surgery, but it may be at another source. I do not think anyone charged, but I honestly do not know

...as she paid her taxes throughout her life like everyone else.

However, see quote from article above, this was a private clinic. She would have to have substantial additional insurance/personal funds to go there.

Also, the fact that it was accredited by Medicare simply means patients could use their Medicare to pay a portion of the fees. Now Medicare won't touch it and patients are advised to go elsewhere.

If I am in error on any portion of this, I am sure others will correct me.
