LINCOLN, Neb. Attorneys for Bold Nebraska are threatening legal action if TransCanada doesnt restart the pipeline siting process in Nebraska in the wake of Fridays state Supreme Court decision on the law used to approve the route through Nebraska.
And they said Nebraska lawmakers should pass laws strengthen landowner rights when an oil pipeline is built on their property.
TransCanada is a Canadian company that has been working for six years to get state and federal permits to build the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada to the Gulf Coast refineries. The company has run into a groundswell of opposition in Nebraska, where 16 percent of landowners have refused to sign easements that would allow the pipeline to be built on their land.
The attorneys who represented landowners who challenged the Nebraska pipeline siting law say if TransCanada doesnt apply for a permit through the Nebraska Public Service Commission, theyre ready for Round Two.
