Warren Wins: Obama Treasury Pick Bows Out Of Nomination Process
Source: TPM
By DANIEL STRAUSS Published JANUARY 12, 2015, 5:22 PM EST
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has won her push to stop banker Antonio Weiss from becoming the under secretary for domestic policy at the Treasury Department.
Weiss asked President Barack Obama not to resend his nomination for the job, Politico reported on Monday and the White House confirmed to TPM.
Weiss, a Democrat and banker at Lazard, had been in the crosshairs of Warren over the last few weeks as she railed against the unnecessary influence of Wall Street in the halls of Congress.
Warren had maintained that Weiss's background as a banker who was involved in a merger between Tim Horton's and Burger King disqualified him from the Treasury post.

(81,322 posts)start adding up. Building to a critical mass. This is - as Pink Floyd would say - "another brick in the wall." Hopefully this success begets MORE success. Maybe this success means our President will choose nominees with more of an eye toward "NO MORE WALL STREETERS". Hopefully the message that keeps getting sent by small steps forward like this - will finally gain unstoppable momentum. We knocked this guy out of contention. That appeals court nominee who was hugely anti-choice (michael boggs I think his name was) - he's out, too. His name's off the list now.
I understand, though, that the boggs thing was a little manipulation of the President's - some asshole, I think it was that jerk saxby chambliss, said if boggs' name was added to a list of judicial nominees then he wouldn't move to block the forward movement of that list. So President Obama went along - to get that list including everybody else who wasn't so objectionable to advance. Then at the final stages, boggs somehow fell off the list, fortunately enough.
EVEN SO.
EVEN SO!!!
A victory is still a victory is still a victory. Let's just take it as an overall victory, "sweep it all up," as rummy would say, and start asserting that THIS MEANS MOMENTUM. THIS IS A TREND. THIS IS NOW UNMISTAKE-ABLE. THE TIMES THEY REALLY ARE A'CHANGIN'. THIS CAN'T BE IGNORED ANYMORE: THE PROGRESSIVE VIEW IS ON THE MARCH, AND ON THE RISE.
From this we build toward taking back the Senate, taking back the Statehouses, and KEEPING the White House. What was that story about how 22-some-odd million MORE Democratic votes were cast in the last election than there were republi-CON votes? And because of gerrymandering, somehow the minority ruled. Let's start putting some teeth into that!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2015/01/05/senate-democrats-got-20-million-more-votes-than-senate-republicans-which-means-basically-nothing/

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2014/11/05/3589157/millions-more-votes-were-cast-for-democrats-in-the-incoming-senate-than-for-republicans/
There was even this - which attempts to debunk some of the above links...
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2015/01/05/the_myth_of_democrats_20-million-vote_majority_125145.html
HOWEVER, as I read down the page, I couldn't avoid noticing the repeated citings of vote totals (whether it could be argued that the difference between Presidential election years and midterm election years dispute the conclusions in the above links) - and those vote totals in ANY case ALWAYS, and CONSISTENTLY, had Democratic vote totals ahead of the CON totals. Sometimes by 2.5 percent, sometimes by five-million votes, but whatever the case, Democratic vote totals were CONSISTENTLY greater than GOP vote totals. Any way you sliced it. And we need to be making HAY out of that.
We need to be shoving that at the media and force-feeding it to the media and making such a stink about it that it can't be avoided as a news item. WE NEED THIS TO GET OUT THERE!!!!! We need to start questioning these wins, painting them as less-than-legitimate, painting them as affronts to true democracy, painting them as false and phony wins and ill-gotten gains, and whatever else we can throw at 'em. As rummy was reported to have said, "Go massive. Sweep it ALL up." Hell, that's how the game is played now. So why can't WE play it that way?

(3,544 posts)This woman is unbelievable. She has put her ass on the line for US so many times, I can't keep track. I am so proud of her and her beliefs, it cannot be measured. She represents what all democrats want from their government. My respect for her is also unmeasurable.
My question is: Why is she the only one (other than Bernie Sanders) that are going to bat for the middle class, jobs, the economy, etc.... Why aren't more democratic senators like her? I really fear what might have happened if she(and Bernie) had not come along when they did.
Just the other day, she questioned why the pipeline was the number 1 priority of the new GOP senate. Why aren't we putting jobs number 1? Rebuilding the infrastructure will create 8 million jobs. The pipeline, less than 1000. She is a common sense politician, not bought by anyone, and truly has THIS country as her number one priority. No one in the GOP can say that.
