After a decade of war, why are we spoiling for fights in Ukraine, Syria and Iran? (Your letters)

To the Editor:

The United States has now been engaged in non-winnable wars in Afghanistan and Iraq for over a decade.

Billions have been spent to make the region safe for capitalism and democracy. The efforts have failed to bear sweet fruits. Our incursion in Libya resulted in a divided country, instability and perpetually warring factions. Now the same voices that got us into these quagmires, causing the death of thousands of our brave fighting men, are sounding the trumpet for confrontation with Russia over Ukraine and an expanded war in the region by supporting Ukraine with offensive weapons; a situation that can only be resolved by diplomatic engagement. Any other path will lead to unimaginable bloodshed and instability in Europe.

Additionally, we are at war with Isis on the Eastern Front of Syria and contemplating "boots on the ground" in a Syrian civil war. Simultaneously, we have invited Israel's Prime Minister to stir up support for a military intervention in Iran although we are on the verge of an agreement with that country on its nuclear program.

We are a country enmeshed in world wide perpetual wars that we are fighting on credit while our infrastructure and middle class are slowly disintegrating.
