Like Israel has anything to fear militarily from Syria. And they can wipe both of those states off the map with their military and nukes. Plus of course that can always call on their buddy, Uncle Sam, for extra muscle.

Thanks for posting again ellisonz!

But yeah that one is a little confusing. If they had it the other way around with the US and Israel as the beasts it'd be a little more realistic. The only ones with nuclear weapons.

I find that one to be offensive, not to my political ideals, but to me as a person with cognitive abilities.

Iran and Syria are both menacing. Israel could do some serious damage with conventional military forces, but more often than not they don't. Using nuclear weapons is insanity. Israel hasn't wiped Gaza off the map and we might want to ask why - my answer: Israel has a sense of decency - compared to Israel the regimes of Syria and Iran are menacing wolves.

Assad and the Iranian theocracy, yes. When was the last time unarmed demonstrators were shot down by the hundreds, children tortured, and women stoned to death in Israel?

You mentioned Gaza. Israel of course wouldn't use nukes there, but did use weapons and tactics that are illegal under international law there.

Israel has bombed Syria, not the other way around.

I have no interest in cultural or moral relativism and won't fall into comparing apples to oranges. Women aren't stoned to death in Israel - just run over by bulldozers. Two wrongs do not make one right.

...and I thought I addressed it as clearly as possible. I understand what the cartoonist was going for and think it just about gets it right. But yeah, let's not rehash the entire million post debate that's gone on at DU over this issue.

I don't want to get off on a tangent detracting from your otherwise excellent OP.

We both know that this is an incredibly divisive issue around here, and I wish we could discuss it, but sometimes the parties to the discussion are just too far apart to make any progress.

I think it's time for Newt to add "political has-been" to his resume.
