Back Door Secession
On Monday, The New York Times reported that eleven counties in Colorado are promoting efforts to secede from their state government. Of course, men like Governor Rick Perry of Texas have gone further and threatened secession from the federal government. It is not much noticed that parts of the country act as if they had already seceded from the union. They do not recognize laws and Supreme Court decisions, or constitutional guarantees of free speech. For instance seventeen states have violated the First Amendment by preventing or hindering the work of navigatorsorganizations and businesses funded by the federal government to educate people on ways to follow the rules of the Affordable Care Act. Some groups routinely attempt to block health centers from advising women on the legal right to contraception. Eight state legislatures this year have passed voter restrictions that may violate the Fourteenth Amendment, and similar measures are pending in other states.

(570 posts)I didn't note anything about double posts in the TOS and have noted that more often than not duplicate articles are posted 2, 3 or more times over the course of a day or two.

(36,974 posts)The only forum on DU that has a 'no dupe' rule is the 'LBN/Latest Breaking News' forum.
Of course it is always good to look to see if a story has already been posted and then comment on that existing thread which helps to bump the existing ones up the list - but that is not rule.
p.s. I think 'sometimes' we see so many duplicates in the forums is because there are many folks that put lots of folks on 'ignore' so they don't see all the threads that have already been posted and end up posting the story again (just my opinion)

(570 posts)I never thought about how many dupes could be a result of the ignore feature.
