Bill Maher ended Friday night with a proud boast that California is creating the kind of “moderate liberal nation” the country as a whole really needs to be, and it’s doing so thanks to the lack of a Republican “legislative cockblock.”

3. What we oldest Boomers also remember is that California

is the state that exported the religious right and neoconservatism starting in the 70s, dragging the country hard right even as they remained rather soft left in many of their own policies.

If they are what it takes to drag this country back to the left, let's hope it's a damned hard left and works a hell of a lot faster than the rightward shift did. Some of us aren't going to live a whole lot longer if they don't.
