When the oil companies make money, they make money. It's not really hard to see what's wrong there.

that we live in a nation of corporate whores. I mean, that's the way I like to think about it. Nobody wants to shut down the local "Jerb Creator" by bringing in unwanted attention. Just another example of the human psychology in motion, people.

To focus that a bit, most of the business in ND is farming. The oil companies have been getting their way in Bismarck, but they feel less secure in ND than in TX about political control.
