My wife and I attended an all-day workshop he put on up near Seattle a few weeks ago, and I've known about Rick Steves for probably 30 years. Europe Through the Back Door is his theme, and he shows you how to travel Europe as a native would do it...economically, with tons of tips on how to avoid the lines and the rip-offs. A great source for travel if you plan to do Europe in the future.
I believe he was considering to run for Congress several years back, but bowed out; and I'm glad he did. He's a rich, warm personality, and he is very worldly in his views of tomorrow. I think Washington would have ruined the man, or possibly could have.
What a noble and generous offer. I usually donate $50 a year to some organization, and I think I can "up it" to $100 this year, especially since Rick will be matching the gift.
Hats off to you Rick. I know you've made a lot of money over the years with your books, DVDs, travel gear and tours, but this is truly just another worthy cause that helps those in need...and even here in the United States, where we are seeing more and more joining that sad group.
