I especially like the smartphone integration. Ideally, the wheel would be locked if the smartphone wasn't present.

The challenge with all integrated solutions is that they are only as reliable as the weakest link. On a normal e-bike If the controller, battery or motor are suboptimal, you'd just upgrade or replace them. I also have a concern about modes of failure. Normal e-bikes have a shutoff wire in the brake handles.

who are looking to use a bicycle to commute not exercise but there is still a considerable exercise component left in place. A winner.

No one is going to make you use one.

But it could help someone who otherwise wouldn't.
