Bill Moyers: The End of Democracy

This will be short, about 3:16 short. Bill Moyers has called it. Please watch this video.

BILL MOYERS:

. .

We pay. We pay at the grocery store. We pay at the gas pump. We pay the taxes they write off. Our low-wage workers pay with sweat and deprivation because this town – aloof, self-obsessed, bought off and doing very well, thank you – feels no pain.

The journalists who could tell us these things rarely do – and some, never. They aren’t blind, simply bedazzled. Watch the evening news – any evening news – or the Sunday talk shows. Listen to the chit-chat of the early risers on morning TV -- and ask yourself if you are learning anything about how this town actually works.

William Greider, one of our craft’s finest reporters, fierce and unbought, despite a long life in Washington once said that no one can hope to understand what is driving political behavior without asking the kind of gut-level questions politicians ask themselves in private: “Who are the winners in this matter and who are the losers? Who gets the money and who has to pay? Who must be heard on this question and who can be safely ignored?”

. . .

Or perhaps they do not tell us these things because they fear that if the system were exposed for what it is, outraged citizens would descend on this town, and tear it apart with their bare hands.

2. Democracy is going down the crapper because the press will not do it's job

The politicians will get away with anything they are allowed to get away with. We don't do anything to stop them because we have no clue just how much they are getting away with because the liberal media want to keep getting invited to the A list parties.

If we want to change how this country operates, we should work on changing how the press reports on it.

9. I AGREE THAT THE MSM IS AN ARM TOTALLY CONTROLLED BY THE CORP. STATE, SO

We that desire a return to more democracy need to use the Alternative Press to help us lead masses yearning to be more free and less controlled by the Corporate State. Where to start? Getting the $$$ outta politics is my priority, such as overturning Cit. United VS US FEC. Without this massive change, too many lawmakers are bought and paid for by Corporadoes. At the same time Global Climate Change has got to be reduced in it's terrible consequences for most of those on this planet. GMOs gotta at least get labeled, if not outright banned. They'll kill us, if we don't stop 'em. Really. These are my big three. Yours, DUers?

Really? By what measure? Surly not by our bought off Representatives. Surly not our standard of living, which is stagnating. Surly not by the way we treat our returning veterans, from our illegal wars. Surly not by the differences between the economic Haves and Have Nots. Surly not by our droning innocent civilians, from the skies, in countries we are not at war with. And the list goes on and on

"They" know the rape &pillaging of America's Working Class & Poor is unsustainable.
They KNOW.
And THAT is why we have the Patriot Act, NDAA, Militarized and Nationally Co-Ordinated Police Departments, TSA, Homeland Security, NSA, Private Prisons,...& gawd knows what else
to keep the 1% and their property SAFE when the peasants realize how badly they have been SCREWED over the last 30 years.

Sherman Act 1890 Public officials during the Progressive Era put passing and enforcing strong antitrust high on their agenda. President Theodore Roosevelt sued 45 companies under the Sherman Act, while William Howard Taft sued 75. In 1902, Roosevelt stopped the formation of the Northern Securities Company, which threatened to monopolize transportation in the Northwest

Glass–Steagall Act Many commentators have stated that the GLBA’s repeal of the affiliation restrictions of the Glass–Steagall Act was an important cause of the late-2000s financial crisis.[9][10][11] Some critics of that repeal argue it permitted Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors' money that was held in affiliated commercial banks.

Mergers and Acquisitions, Over the past decade, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) have reached unprecedented levels as companies use corporate financing strategies to maximize shareholder value and create a competitive advantage. Acquisitions occur when a larger company takes over a smaller one; a merger typically involves two relative equals joining forces and creating a new company.

A MONOPOLY exists when a specific person or enterprise is the only supplier of a particular commodity (this contrasts with a monopsony which relates to a single entity's control of a market to purchase a good or service, and with oligopoly which consists of a few entities dominating an industry).

An OLIGOPOLY is a market form in which a market or industry is dominated by a small number of sellers (oligopolists). Oligopolies can result from various forms of collusion which reduce competition and lead to higher costs for consumers.

COLLUSION is an agreement between two or more parties, sometimes illegal and therefore secretive, to limit open competition by deceiving, misleading, or defrauding others of their legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically by defrauding or gaining an unfair advantage.

A coup d'état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/; plural: coups d'état), also known as a coup, a putsch, or an overthrow, is the sudden deposition of a government, usually by a small group of the existing state establishment—typically the military—to depose the extant government and replace it with another body, civil or military. A coup d'état is considered successful when the usurpers establish their dominance. When the coup neither fails completely nor succeeds, a civil war is a likely consequence.

10. Who Stole The American Dream - Video - Book - Powell Memo
Sat Dec 21, 2013, 11:14 PM
Dec 2013

"The promise of a prosperous middle-class life with decent work, rising living standards, and the potential for a better future has long been the foundation of the American dream. But as America continues to struggle to recover from the Great Recession, it has become clear that the middle class is in jeopardy -- and many of the policies of the last 40 years are to blame.

Examining the political, legislative, and corporate choices that have pushed the middle class to the brink, Pulitzer Prize- and Emmy Award-winning journalist, producer, and bestselling author Hedrick Smith details the story of this demise. In his new book, Who Stole the American Dream?, Mr. Smith analyzes how "pro-business" policies dismantled the previous American social contract and tells the stories of the people who have been left behind. ..."
