Kidding. I learned a lot from our family's copy of the Encyclopedia Americana. It took up about 3 shelves of a bookcase. (Bookcases! Remember when people had those?)

I once refuted some stupid e-mail assertion from one of my conservative brothers by quoting numerous published sources, including the Encyclopædia Britannica, and he dismissed it airily by claiming ENCYCLOPEDIAS have a liberal bias. (One of the other books I cited was the DICTIONARY, which he also rejected. "I trust my own memory of the events I lived through," he said.) The argument had to do with how the VietNam War wound down. He completely forgot Richard Nixon's policy of Vietnamization, and claimed I was making all that up.

I'm sure he believes Benghazi is worse than Watergate, which in his mind was nothing but a partisan political exercise. Hmm. Nah. The cognitive dissonance just doesn't register with the true believers.

saying that there will be no backlash against her friends the repubs for beating this dead horse because the economy is so bad that everyone will vote against Democrats in 2014 and 2016 anyway.

I never imagined that I would be thinking this, but I am ready for Congress to de-fund NPR now. Their news division has been completely corrupted and should be drowned in a bathtub.

On NPR, she "reported" on the Bush Charm Offensive. She described how Bush, if elected, would go to DC and get things done because he was "charming, oh so charming."

And he like to give out nicknames, too. Oh, and more Americans would rather have a beer with W than with Gore.

I also gave up listening to NPR then.
