(Now are oceans are filled with plastic traps for our sea mamals, birds and plastic particles and garbage threaten the rest. What happened that after all the warnings we are polluting more and more?) Anyway love this tune and we've forgotten so much of what we learned it's devastating.)-----
I know people trash John Denver...but, anyone remember as a kid being enthralled by Jacques-Yyves Cousteau's wonderful TV Series exploing of our Oceans...and his later films with his son (who died tragically) about when the Pollution started and was overwhelming the pristine Oceans he first viewed when he was a ground breaker in Ocean Exploration having invented many new ways of exploration.

"Calypso" is a song written by John Denver in 1975 as a tribute to Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his research ship, the Calypso. The song was featured on Denver's 1975 album Windsong.
Released as the B-side of "I'm Sorry", "Calypso" received substantial airplay, enabling it to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. After "I'm Sorry" fell out of the #1 position, "Calypso" began receiving more airplay than "I'm Sorry," thus causing Billboard to list "Calypso" as the new A-side. Hence, "Calypso" is itself considered a #2 hit on the Hot 100.
John Denver was a close friend of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. Calypso was the name of Jacques Cousteau's research boat that sailed around the world for oceanic conservation.:

LYRICS:
To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean,
to ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and living,
in search of the answers of questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing,
part of beginning to understand,
Aye Calypso the places you've been to,
the things that you've shown us,
the stories you tell
Aye Calypso, I sing to your spirit,
the men who have served you so long and so well
Hi dee ay-ee ooo doo-dle oh
oo do do do do do doo-dle ay yee
doo-dle ay ee
Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you
To light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land we must learn from the sea
To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be
Aye Calypso the places you've been to,
the things that you've shown us,
the stories you tell
Aye Calypso, I sing to your spirit,
the men who have served you so long and so well
Hi dee ay-ee ooo doo-dle oh
oo do do do do do doo-dle ay yee
doo-dle ay ee
he dee Ay-ee
Hi dee oh ooo
hi dee ayee
hi dee oh ooo

(3,338 posts)I'm forever a huge John Denver fan. Seeing him in concert and hearing "Calypso" live was truly an amazing experience. A gifted musician and humanitarian, we lost him too soon. Jacques Cousteau and John Denver died just months apart.

(36,058 posts)-ury, and Cousteau will be the Founder of that great global cause!
This reminds me of another group who used music to promote environmentalism.
"Clear Blue Skies"
Clear blue skies, not too much to ask for,
They were here before we came,
Will they be here when we're gone?
Clean water, not too much to hope for,
It's the basis of our lives
And without it we are done.
Well we can keep our eyes upon the skies
And see how the time goes by
Or we can find our fears among the tears
That fall when the meadows cry, cry cry.
Well we can keep our eyes upon the skies
And see how the time goes by
Or we can find our fears among the tears
That fall when the meadow cries.
Clear ideas, much too much to think of.
We need all the help we can get
(And I know) we need all the time that we've got
(And I know) we need all the love we can give,
It will be here when we're gone (clear blue skies)
It will be here when we're gone
It will be here when we're gone (clear blue skies)
Clear blue skies
Clear blue skies (clear blue skies).
Clear blue skies (clear blue skies).
