rhythm section in rock history (Keith and John). Guitar (Pete) and working class vocals (Roger) not too bad either. My favorite band.

For me, The Who were the permanent residents of the #2 spot.

My top 5:

1.Beatles
2.Who
3.Byrds
4.Steely Dan
5.The Police

Lots of artists reside farther down, but still in lofty positions like,
Gentle Giant and other Prog bands, the Hollies, Kinks, etc etc etc

I recall looking at the expressions on Moon's face during the performance.

Krupa... Sing, Sing, sing. One microphone over Krupa during that eleven minutes of drumming excellence.

And here's a fantastic depiction by Sal Mineo (it's Gene's actual drumming sounds, though), taught for the movie BY GK, who gave Sal his drumset afterwards!:

When Keith died, the news of his death swept through campus with the ferocity of a brush fire. Yet when John Paul I died, it just seeped in slowly.

Although I was a huge Moon admirer, this was the solo that got me started...

I have a new appreciation for The Who. This started within the last couple of years. I have always been a fan. But lately I am finding new appreciation for lots of the old music that I might have taken for granted years ago. That fucking Entwhistle! All of them! What a cast of characters.

Thanks for the post. Keith Moon was one of the best-what energy these guys had. Check out Blue Cheer's cover of Summer Time Blues, which The Who also covered. High energy.
