For all you dolphin lovers out there.

On a repositioning sail last week, we spotted one of the largest groups of dolphins we had ever seen. Literally hundreds of dolphins could be seen about a mile off our stern.

As we watched in amazement, the group headed towards us and stayed with us for a very long time.

This is the video of that magical event.

Dear hosts, I put this here because I wish to show how important it is that we preserve and cherish our marine life and oceans. There are many activities out here that may seriously impact these incredible animals and we need to pay close attention.

what kind of camera did you use? it performed very well

but using Beethoven's 7th made me so sad to think that this could soon all be gone as the oceans die

I had mixed feelings about the music, but it most accurately conveyed my experience. Interestingly, the three of us aboard all had different ideas about the music.

The captain, who is also the cameraman, wanted Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, but it just didn't work for me at all, lol.

Beautiful area and you did a wonderful job with this! How cool it is to see them up close in their natural environment! The only dolphins I've seen were at Sea World when I was a kid (still remember their names, LOL) or at the amusement park where I worked summers when I was in school. *sigh*

This is so beautiful and thanks so much for sharing it with us. BTW, I'm a host here and wouldn't have locked this for the world...

This is just amazing! I once had an opportunity to go whale watching while vacationing with friends, hoped to see some dolphins, but they opted to go birdwatching instead. We saw one Baltimore Oriole and a Blue Jay. *sigh*

Thanks so much for this! It's so beautiful!

I saw whales btw Long Beach and Catalina once years ago.

A brief story about the Beethoven 7th. I was in undergrad school studying music in 1963 when Kennedy was assassinated. I was finishing lunch when I heard. After lunch we had an orchestra rehearsal.

I went right to the hall and told the conductor what had happened. He was shocked, of course. We were scheduled to work on the 3rd movement, the scherzo. When he took the podium he told the orchestra about JFK. Most people didn't know, as I remember. Several students suggested we work on the 2nd m'vt, the 'funeral march' - the music in the video. The conductor said, "No. We will go on with the Scherzo."
Something about that deeply impressed me, so much that I still remember it, almost 50 years later.

GREAT video.. Thanks.

many surfed up at our bow and along side. I also see them regularly in Tampa bay when I am out racing my sail boat.

And if I were to see a larger group of deer than usual I would assume that the number of deer were getting larger. Is that what is happening that we are seeing this many dolphin together? I think this is the second video I have seen this year on DU.
